Dining with a Difference
The Maitland Diner has always been a part of the Maitland Country Club' but cur-
rently, it is dining with a difference. The present leasee, Chef Ben Merritt, has
used the opportunity to put his heart and soul into a very special dining place
for Goderich and area.
Ben is a native of Yorkshire England and ventured to Canada 12 years ago to take
a job at the Church Restaurant in Stratford. Four years of experience in Stratford
led him to employment at Benmiller'Inn and his first taste of Huron County. While
working at Benmlller, Ben met his wife who has become an integral part of the
work at the Maitland.
Four years of work at Benmiller and another two years of seasonal work at the
Red Pump in Bayfield led Ben to leasing the Maitland Diner and the chance to
be his own boss.
For the last 2 years Ben and Carolyn have done their best to cater to the individual
customers taste and created :Wining place "a little different from the average."
His personal catering has included corporate clients such as Champion, as well
as individuals from the area.
Dreams come true through hard work and if one comparison could be made bet•
ween a diner and an international road grader company, it would be just that,
Hard Work!
