December 21, 1976 was an auspicious occasion in Champion's history as the 10,000th grader manufactured came off the line.

Dan O'Brien came from Stratford to Goderich in 1912 when he entered into part-
nership in a buther shop with Tom Legg. The shop was located on East Street
where the Bank of Montreal parking lot now stands. In a short time. Mr. O'Brien
went into business for himself, and in 1925. D.M. O'Brien Meats moved to West.
Street. to the site now occupied by Morris Draperies. In 1936, Mr. O'Brien bought
the corner block at East Street and The Square, and carried on there until February.
1977 when the building was burned to the ground. O'Briens worked out of the
C.N.R. shed on East Street until construction of a new shop at 413 Huron Road
was completed in 1978.
In 1945. after his service. Joe O'Brien joined his father, and the business became
known as D.M. O'Brien and Son When Dan O'Brien retired, Joe took over, and
during their school days. his six sons worked in the shop with him.
Two of these sons. Tim and Torn. joined their father in the business, and on his
retirement, took over, thus becoming the third generation of O'Briens Meats and
Abattoir to serve Goderich and surrounding country during the past 74 years.
