Post war- years
Champion was part
of the war effort
In Toronto suburbs, Lancaster

turned out with amazing regularity
while other plants turned out a
variety of items, both weaponry and
iteins of equipment and vehicles.
Ontario's war effort was
substantial due to technological
development and the assistance
required. The provincial landscape
was dotted with British
Commonwealth Air Training Centres
as local men enlisted in the armed
forces. Training bases at Vanastra
and Port Albert contributed to the
war effort.
The war effort also required fuel,
large amounts of money, which was
supplied by new tax schemes from a
centralized source.
They were difficult years as every

war. Industry was mainly busy with
war -related items and, essentially,
there were no new cars, appliances,
or even houses. Families were in a
state of disarray as men were
stationed all over the province and
world.
But the war had put the industrial
machines back to work and by the
end, the manufacturing sector was
on its feet again. Plants were in
production everywhere, and to keep
pace with the demands of the war
effort, were operating at an efficient
pace.
War had put the industrial
machine back on the rails and
Ontario, and Canada, was ready for
a bold new era.
Champion has welcomed many distinguished visitors over the years
including Canadian Prime Minister Louis St. Laurent, shown shaking
hands with Bruce Sully during the 1953 election campaign. St.
Laurent defeated John Diefenbaker in 1953 and entered his second
term in office.
