Jones Philips of Kennet Square, in that the first union, Local Lodge 1238 of the Machinist Union, ,was organized. It disbanded four years later. In 1921, Dominion Roads entered the export market for the first time as it built horse-drawn graders for Argentina, South America. The company also invented and marketed a "Jiffy starter"- a device which sold for $15 And could be added to Ford and other cars to avoid hand -cranking to the start the engine. During this time, the company also did contract work for Goderith Elevator; Purity Flour, Goderich Mfg. Co., The Salt Works, the Goderich Organ Co. and the Grand Trunk and CP railroads. It also manufactured steel vaults for the cemetery to accommodate caskets. The 1920s were both turbulent and exciting times for the Goderich manufacturer and it was in 1925 that a local man, T.H. Mitchell bought controlling interest in the company. A former accountant for the American Road Machinery Co., Mitchell was secretary according to the 1919 list of board members. He purchased the company from S. The Goderich Power Maintainer, with enclosed cab, as taken on Cambria Road near East Street, Jones Phillips. The company was struggling when Mitchell took over but under his direction, it made some significant was introduced in 19280 product improvements. In 1920, Champion replaced the horse with a tractor and the road grader became a one-man operation.
