North Street United Church, Goderich
Pest:..
North St. United Church, Goderich, has, from its beginning been a uniting church.
Arriving on horseback in 1831, the Rev. Thomas Whitehead discovered an interested
group of pioneers anxious to establish a place of worship.
In 1841 the Canada Company deeded Tots 5 and 6 on North Street to the Wesleyan
Methodists and a church was built. In 1875 and 1884 it joined with other groups to become
the Methodist Church of Canada. In 1906 the present church structure was erected.
In 1925 the Methodist, Congregational and
Presbyterian Churches in Canada united to form
the United Church of Canada.
In 1958, the fine pipe organr-installed in 1906,
was rebuilt and refurbished. Recent renovations to
the church have modo North Street fully accessible
with the installation of an elevator.
North Street United Church has always concer-
ned itself with the missionary effort and the needs
of those in the community and throughout the
world. Teachers, preachers, nurses and doctors
have all gone out from North Street United Church,
Goderich to bring the word of God and the helping
hand of the congregation to those less fortunate
