Growth is something that is achieved over time
with a lot of hard work and determination. Growth
is also something Art's Landscaping and Champion
Road Machinery have in common, but not without
good reason.
Art Bourdeau is not a native to Goderich but has
called it home for almost 25 years. When Art first
moved to Goderich, it was to take a job with a com-
pany in a town that was a stranger to him. But as
a beginner welder it didn't take him long to get in-
volved at Champion Road Machinery and in the town
of Goderich. By 1968 Art had worked his way up to
being the president of, Local 1863 of the Interna-
tional Association of Machinists & Aerospace
Workers', the union. This later led to a supervisors
position, which he held for 2 years.
However, the job at Champion was not the only job Art had. During the evenings and weekends
he was landscaping and snowplowing on the side. Fortunately, for Art, Champion was very co-
operative and allowed him to work days regularly, so he could pursue his other interests. It wasn't
until 1974, that Art finally left Champion and went into business for himself.
The first store, bought from the museum, was the old blacksmith shop. The current expansive
location on Bennett St., was built in 1974. Art's hobby has now become a very successful business.
A former one -man -operation now employs 12 full time employees. Art's also offers a full range
of quality services, such as landscaping, asphalting, installing trees & shrubs and a large garden
centre.
The growth of Art's Landscaping continues even today, and with the involvement of Art's sons,
Max and Rick, the outlook for the future is bright.
Art's is proud to be responsible for the snow removal and lawn maintenance at Champion and
would like to take this chance to wish a very special...
