The 1900s
Goderich
was a
bustling
town
n the early 1900s, the American
Road Machinery Company set
a sidi ry in Hamilton,
Bio. �c ::ckuai %_ ,
Ontario known as the Good Roads
Machinery Company Ltd. of
Hamilton.
The subsidiary remained in
Hamilton for a ,few years and then,
because of labour problems, the'
company • was moved to Goderich.
Goderich was a bustling and
prosperous town in the day, and
plans were in the works to improve
the port facility and erect new
buildings. In fact, federal
government estimates, released in
1909, for the fiscal year ending
March 31, 1911, included provisions .
by the minister of finance for the
town of Goderich. Those provisions
were $80,000 for harbour
improvements and extension of the
breakwall and $10,000 to enlarge and
