Here's to Champion'S
GSS/Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1986
ow the a .i' or
century of
ometimes it's difficult to accept
the notion that Champion Road
Machinery Co. Ltd. is an
international manufacturer of road
graders.
More to the point, it is a well
respe:..';,ed is anuf acnu er, turning 0T
the finest machines in the dirt -
pushing business.
Living in Goderich, we tend to
become possessive about "our
Champion" ,a place where fathers
and sons work side by side, and
think more in terms of the jobs and
opportunities it provides to the town
' ' and area. And sometimes we tend to
overlook the fact that Champions are
found in 86 countries around the
world and that the company has
responsibilities in many places
beyond our borders.
Champion and Goderich enjoy a
unique, symbiotic relationship.
One hundred years ago, the first
Champion, The Baby Winner, was
introduced. From those humble
beginnings, Champions have evolved
into the finest product available in
the international marketplace
featuring the latest in manufacturing
xcellence
technology and innovation.
This special edition takes a
retrospective look at the company,
and the development of the product.
And more importantly, perhaps, it
takes you inside Champion and gives
you isn in-depth look at the people
who make the company work.
The production of the supplements
,,was a most challenging but
rewarding task. It was designed to
chronicle the achievements of a
unique family-owned company, but
also to provide you with a more than
superficial or cursory glance at the
operation of an international
manufacturer.
In my research I met many
dedicated people; people of
indomitable spirit who make
Champion both an enviable and
productive place to work.
I met people of integrity who
willingly accept the responsiblity
and challenge of the job at hand;
people who, over the years, have
responded in the face of adversity.
I met people who have made a
genuine commitment to excellence,
often requiring personal sacrifice,
and, 1 met people who inject a good
measure of personality and vibrancy
into the work routine at Champion.
Champion has had it's problems, but
its belief in employees pervades the
company and, in my view,
strenghtens it.
This special section salutes the
company on a century of excellence
and profiles some of the people who
contributed to the shape and
character of Champion.
And may we daringly submit that,
Champion's second century will be
even more prosperous.

The idea for the Financial Centre originated in 1982 by Frank and Dennis Little. At that time, they both worked as career
agents offering limited products from only one company. They realized it would be a great advantage to their clients to offer
numerous products from many different companies on a brokerage basis: This was accomplished and business florished.
In 1984, John joined forces with his father Frank and cousin Dennis. This new concept of marketing has been so well ac-
cepted by the public, thatthe company's growth has been phenomenal. The Financial Centre has new computerized offices
with a staff of eight. They have developed to the position of offering their clients complete Financial Planning, which is a
new concept whereby your financial future' will happen by choice rather than by chance.
