The Goderich and District Pro Life Group
held its 13th annual general meeting and
dinner on Oct. 21, at the Goderich Township
Hall in Holmesville.
A potluck dinner was enjoyed by about 65
people. Following dinner,Mrs. Maryanne
Hogan of Kingsbridge entertained with her
lovely voice and moving lyrics.
Reverend F. Loebach, of Mitchell, in-
troduced the guest speaker for the evening,
Reverend Alphonse deValk of Toronto, a
well-known speaker for human rights in
Carda.
Reverend deValk began with a brief
history of the changing laws regarding abor-
tion in North America, beginning with the

Pearl Townsend
dies in hospital.
MRS. HELEN PEARL TOWNSEND
Mrs. Helen Pearl Townsend, of RR 5
Goderich, died in Alexandra Marine and
General Hospital on Wednesday, October
29 at the age of 74.
Born in Goderich on April 11, 1912, she
was the daughter of Tenant and Oreta
(Clark) Drennan. She was married to Ar-
chie Townsend. She was a member of the
Knox Presbyterian Church and the Royal
Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary to
Branch 109 in Goderich.
Surviving are two sons, Chuck and his
wife Cathy of London; Grant and his wife
Jacqueline of Goderich; one daughter,
Karen Anne Skomorowsky of Thorold; one
sister, Evelyn (Mrs. Edward Scruton) of
Goderich; and six grandchildren, Ellen,
Jane, Michael, Grant and Gregory Town-
send and Darren Skomorsky.
She was predeceased by one brother,
Russell Drennan.
The funeral service was held on Friday,
October 31 at the McCallum and Palla
Funeral Home in Goderich with the Rev.
G.L. Royal of Knox Presbyterian Church
officiating.
Internment was in Maitland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ed Scruton, Bob Wain,
Ted Williams, Ron Sproul, Bob Williams
and Don McDougall. The Royal Canadian
Legion Ladies Auxiliary to Branch 109
formed an Honor Guard at the funeral
home.
JAMES FRANCIS REAN
James Francis Rean of Goderich died at
Victoria Hospital in London on Saturday,
November 1 at the age of 75.
Mr. Rean was a retired engineer with
the Patterson Steamship Lines. He was a
member of Victoria Street United Church
and Maitland Lodge 33 A.F. and A.M.
He was born in Devon, England on
December 7, 1910 to James and Evelyn
Phoebe (Pritis) Rean.
Surviving are his wife, Olive Irene, and
two sons, James and his wife Carol of
Goderich; John (Pete) and his wife Gail of
Carlton Place; and four daughters, Sheila
and her husband Doug Beresford of Lon-
don; Shirley and her husband Gord Smith
of Goderich; Diane and her husband Bill
Katcher of Thunder Bay; and, Betty and
her husband Charles Dowell of Vanastra.
Also surviving are 25 grandchildren and 21
great-grandchildren.,
He was predeceased by two brothers,
Charles and Bertrum.

OBITUARIES
The funeral service was held Monday,
November 3 at the McCallum and Palla
Funeral Home in Goderich with Rev. John
D.M. Wood officiating. Internment was at
Maitland Cemetery.
William Joseph Kinahan
William Joseph Kinahan of 365 Frances
Street in Wingham, died after a long il-
lness in the Wingham and District Hospital •
on October 27 at 61 years -of -age.
Mr. Kinahan was the former local agent
for the' Sun Life Assurance, Company for
approximately 30 years. He also farmed in
the area for a number of yeas before
becoming an insurance agent. He was a
member of the Sacred. Heart School Board
and also served for 10 years on the Huron -
Perth Roman Catholic School Board. He
was chairman of the school board in 1979.
He was also a member of the Knights of
Columbus and was the former president of
the Huron -Perth Lung Association. He was
a member of the Sacred Heart Roman
Catholic Church in Wingham and the St.
Augustine Roman Catholic Church.
Born in, West Wawanosh Township on
November 27, 1924, he was the son of the
late Augustine Kinahan and the late
, Genevieve O'Connor. Mr. Kinahan mar-
ried the former Mary Kennedy on August
1, 1953.
He is survived byhis children,
Genevieve (Mrs. Robert Gibson) of Kit-
chener; Gordon of Newmarkdt; Leo of
Toronto and William at home.: He is also
survived by one sister, Mrs. Bill Metcalfe
and one brother, Michael Kinahan of
Lambeth. �,
He is predeceased by one son, Robert in
1977.
Funeral services were held at the St.
Augustine Roman Catholic Church. with
Father Frank Dentinger officiating. Con-
celebrating the mass of the Christian
Burial were Rev.'Ed Dentinger, Rev. Stan
Soltysik and Rev. Lawrence Couglin.
The pallbearers were Louis Parent, jack
Lane, Keith Montgomery, Mike Courtney,
Ken Leddy and Raymond Hallahan. The
flowerbearers were Katherine Kinahan
and Mark Edwards, Godchildren of Mr.
Kinahan.
Interment was at the St. Augustine
Cemetery.
