Why would someone
break the class plants
Dear Advisor:
In our classroom we have been growing
plants for experiments on growth. Some
plants have been purposefully broken by so-
meone. Why would they do such a thing?
Julie
Dear Julie:
He/she is mad at the teacher, mad at so-
meone in the classroom, or is a show off.
Dear Advisor:
Every night for at least a Year now, My
sister Marjorie has a hamster that always
gnaws on his cage and wakes me up. Her
hampster also 'trys to kill. himself by hang-
ing by the top of the cage and swings there
like a monkey until he falls and hurts
himself. Please 1.e..1pY

Dear Irene:
I have talked with a Vet about animals.
Hamsters are awake at night and sleep in
the day time. Put a blanket over the cage
during the day. He will think it's night time
and he will play. At night put a lightn in his
room and he will think it's day

Last Friday, Mrs. Allen's Grade 7 class'
visited the Childrens Museum in London.
The two workshops they were involved in
were computers and The Solar System. The
real treat for the kids was going to
McDonalds for lunch!
Mrs. Tebbutt's Grade 6 class went on a
short field trip to George Smyth's Welding
Shop on Monday, Oct. 20 We went to see
levers, pulleys and machines at work.. Mr.
and Mrs. Smyth were kind enough to show
us around and they gave us key chains.
Mrs. Bev. Weaver was a great reader in
• Grade 3 last week and read Aladdin and the
Magic Lamp. Her magic lamp contained
Hallowe'en candy kisses for the children!
The children also submitted some ex-
cellent leaf collections that were displayed
in various ways from a tree branch in a'cup,
to a piece of tree trunk.
Miss Mather's Grade ones are working at
several Hallowe'en Centres. In math, we
have begun to learn about joining sets of
numbers. So far, we know the addition
number stories for one , two and three.
Mrs. Cameron's' RI has made Hallowe'en
and catmasks this week. "Our room is
decorated for Hallowe'en and looks very
scary", she says.

enced their se-

cond "Pay Day" on Oct. 21. Each student
received a pay cheque and deposited their
money in the classroom bank. They then
wrote cheques to pay their bills (rent for
their desks, taxes to Mr. Tremeur, transpor
i
ta'ion costs tor busing, etc.) Their challenge
is to balance those bank books and not end
up "in the red." Many thanks to Rtith
MacKenzie,Jan Logtenberg and Marie
Webster for their work as "Tellers" for the
morning!
Mrs. Clarke's Grade 3's created five
humungous papier mache monsters which
they are now painting icky green. They have
also begun monster centres including a
number monster to be added up for a spooky
prize! They've been learning that somepeo-
ple believe they've seen real monsters.
Have you seen a Sasquatch? - or an
Ogopogo?
Cairncross (who is not a Monster! ).
Mrs. Blanchette's K2 continues to work on
colour concepts. We discovered through the
mixing of various finger paints that new col-
ours can be created. While discussing green,
they read a book about Pickles and made
"Pickle People". Using. fall colours they
have sponge painted trees and made
Autumn booklets.
Mrs. Worsell's Grade five just completed
their novel study on Food Novels, including
"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "How
to Eat Fried Worms" and "Chocolate
Fever."
Our senior volleyball team are getting
ready for the tournament, which is sceduled ,
for sometime in November.
All Brookside Teachers journeyed to Ex-
eter on October 24, 1986 to attend Profes-
sional Development m
ent Activities. The theme
for the day was Agriculture and Food as it
applied to the school curriculum. Many
• useful ideas were shared.
Our senior volleyball houseleague will
begin next week.
