Presenting the award is Ontario Community Newspapers Association President Terry McConnell. The Signal -Star also receied a third- place Premier Award for best advertising promotion. VAI list world problems they fear. COLBORNE ji CORNER: Tiger Dunlop WI The October meeting of the Tiger Dunlop Women's Institute was held in Colborne Township Hall Thursday, October 23. In the absence of the president and vice- president, Mrs. Cora Sherwood, past presi- dent, took charge of the opening. Mrs. Ger- trude Kaitting was pianist. Roll call, "A world problem about which I am concerned" was answered by 15 members and two former members, Mrs. Edna Hunter and Mrs. Vi Vean. Secretary Mrs. Kaitting read the minutes of the last meeting and the correspondence. There was a letter from the Huron Day Centre for the Homebound, Clinton, asking for volunteers to take people to Clinton and home again. Participants must be in Clin- ton by 10 a.m. Drivers are required to give some assistance to their passengers, and will receive mileage and a free noon lunch, leaving for home again at 3 p.m. Those who are interested in becoming a -volunteer driver should contant Lois Fit-, • zgerald or Nancy Anstet at 482-7943. There was a letter from the Big Sister Steering Committee, the Kinette Club of Goderich, which will be answered per- sonally by Mrs, Richard Buchanan, and a card of thanks from Ella Bogie for a plant she received. Mrs. Helen Falkiner read two poems before Mary Brindley gave a good report of the Huron County Rally held in Walton. She reported WI members will be paying 75 cents each to a fund for Family and Children's Services. Mary Clairmont, delegate to the London Area 'Convention this year, plans to give a full report at the next meeting. Mrs. Clair- mont said next year will be the 90th an- niversary of the -London Area and the con- vention will be held in St. Marys. . Ruth Brock gave the topic "World Af- fairs" and read an article on the how the. Red Cross got started after the war of Salfortena. She also spoke on the World's Food Day which is held each year on Oc- tober 16. This year's theme was food, water and fisheries: The ladies received an invitation from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food to attend the 441 "Milk Makes It" achievement programs in the area during the month of November. Following the business, the members en- joyed a social half hour and lunch served by Mr. Elliott, Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Emersoq,,,, Next fleeting will be on Thursday, November 27 and members are reminded to bring their children's aid donations with them. Gertrude Knitting, 524-2076 Social News Mr. and Mrs. Richard Buchanan have had a busy month entertaining. Early in the month, Mrs. Buchanan's brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Jarmain Jacques, brother Pierre Jacques and sister Lucille Jacques, all of Quebec, spent a week visiting them and enjoying the beauty of Goderich. They were delighted with their visit here, including a family gathering, and found Goderich picturesque and in- teresting. Over the Thanksgiving weekend, the Buchanans' iinmedrate fami- ly phoned or visited in person. Mrs. Theresa Fulford visited for a few days with friends at Elk Lake. Sincere sympathy to the families of the late 'Mrs: 'Eimer Robertson .and the -late- -- - Helen Fulford. ' Congratulations to Jim and Marguerite ( Tweet). Clutton on their 40th wedding an- niversary which they celebrated at the White Carnation Sunday, October 19. Their daughter Cynthia from Dauphin, Manitoba, was present and stayed for a short holiday. Jim's mother, Mrs. Hume Clutton and brothers and families and Tweet's sisters and families along with many friends were present which made it a celebration long to remember. Sincere congratulations are extended from the . Clutton's many friends in the Colborne community. Several residents and former residents of Colborne have not been enjoying the best of health and their many friends ex- tend best wishes and"a speedy recovery. Russell Brock has been in the hospital and hopes to be home this week. Elva McCabe had an operation and also plans to be home this week. Harvey Lassaline was a patient in Alexandra Marine and' General Hospital Ben Chisholm was a patient . there as well while.Cliff McNeil is a patient in a London hospital. Good Car... Customers planning to wait a little longer and send their items by•air should note the following., Airpost small packets and parcels going to Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Asia, Africa, South America, the South Pacific and the Caribbean should be sent by November 26.
