Dear Editor, •
Since buying what has since been
designated a heritage home in the town of
Goderich three years ago, we have come in-
to contact with the results of careless or ir-
responsible use of BB guns. Several ir-
replaceable window panes have been
destroh have
had holes
b own into them toeliminate ed. As a matter of fact, the
idea of accidents:
The police have been notified, although
there is no doubt the perpetrator will never
be ascertained, particularly as there appear
to be several youngsters in the area who
have BB guns. Itis obvious some have not
been acquainted with where and when they
may be used, nor supervised when using
them:
I have wondered how safe my children
can be playing outside in such cir-
cumstances. While irreplaceable eyeslaceable lostpanes are one thing,
are tragic.
Yours sincerely,
Lynne Hone
He'll remember amused councillor
Dear Editor:
I was in attendance at the Sept. 29 council
meeting when the subject of day care was
voted down, which resulted in a very heated
attack against council. Although I don't
agree with name calling, one must
remember the vote affects the hearts of
many parents, teachers, and especially the
children which seem to be left out of this
matter.
One must suspect the councillors that
turned this vote down did so for other
reasons than financial matters; and if they
want to play politics they should do it
without hurtingsmall innocent children.
I ask you, is name calling any worse than
the councillor who sat back in his chair and
laughed at a full room of upset parents,
when this vote was turned down?
I'll remember you at election time.

Day
care facts misinterpreted
Dear Editor:
In response to T.A. McGuire's letter, and
most other letters which I have read against
day care in Goderich; I would like to submit
the following:
Why do people who do not know the facts
or misinterpret 'them, insist on making
foolish comments?
Does anyone really care what the real
issue is here?
We, the parents of children in Day Care,
approached the Council of Goderich because
a municipality can apply for the grants
which are available from the provincial and
federal governments. Sorry, folks, that
means your tax dollars are already commit-
ted and here's a chance to get a piece of the
pie back. A private individual cannot get
these grants.
We, the parents, have offered to pay
whatever we have to pay to break even. We
don't intend being a tax burden. At the pre-
sent day care rates, the "burden" is a max-
imum of less than $5.00/household/year (the
figure quoted at the Council meeting). Rate
increases would reduce that amount. .Have
you checked into how mudh more you spend
an other projects which serve a less impor-
tant role in spciety? •
The Municipal Nursery is quickly becom-
ing a less used service because of changing
times. The proposed plan for the Day Care
would be incorporated in to the. same
building thus reducing the total cost of the
nursery.
Also, check your figures T.A. McQuire, et
al — the girls who work at the Day Care
couldn't possibly make those wages.
Perhaps you mean the Nursery 'School
Staff? Did you perhaps forget the overhead.
costs such as insurance, food, rent, equip-
ment, etc., needed to run a Day Care.
I don't mind an opposing- view, but get
your facts straight first, please.
Sincerely,
Linda K. Mabon

These are only some of the undertakings,
but I think the OFA report clearly sets the
record straight. There were a number of
other points contained in Mr. Grossman's
speech, which, although not reported,
should also be corrected.
Since the change in government in June,
1985, the budget for the Ministry of
Agriculture and Food has er
cent, not 10.5 per cent as indicated in eased 39 Mr.
Grossman's speech.
It is also incorrect for Mr. Grossman to
say my Ministry is going to phase out fun-
