parade. The theme this year is "Christmas
Through The Eyes Of A Child."

Observe
huntin
safety
Planning a hunting trip this fall? If so, the
Ontario Provincial Police remind you that
no hunting trip is a success if it isn't first a
safe hunt.
Here's the OPP's 12 -point safety
checklist:
1. Treat every gun as if it was loaded;
2. Never shoot at a sound. See your target
clearly first;
3. Never point a gun at anything you don't
intend to kill;
4. Exercise muzzle control of the firearm by
knowing where the gwi is. pointed at an
times;
5. Unload all guns when you return to camp;
fi. Never fire a gun which has a plugged
barrel;
7. Never carry a loaded gun in a vehicle;
8. Never bring a loaded gun indoors;
9. Unload the firearm before climbing
fences, jumping ditches or walking through
dense bush;
10. Never fire at rocks or water as a ricochet
bullet can go anywhere;
11. Wear highly visible clothing and not
camouflage outfits;
12. Drinking and hunting don't mix. A
hangover is a deadly form of impairment.
Hunting can be a safe sport if you
recognize and avoid the potential dangers.
Hunters, in pursuit of game, can become
lost in the bush. Carry a compass and know
how to use it. The OPP recommend that if a
hunter discovers he is lost he should "hug a
tree" and wait for searchers to find him.
Before leaving on a hunting trip tell so-
meone where you are going and then go
there. Numerous searches have been car-
ried out for lost and overdue hunters who
said they were going one place but went
another.
Hunters who boat to their hunting area
have the double responsibility of remember-
ing the rules of boating. An overloaded boat
is likely to capsize throwing its heavily -
dressed occupants into freezing water. A
lifejacket that is worn is a real life-saver in
this situation.
All hunters should carry a basic first-aid
kit and know the fundamentals of first-aid.

SUMMARY WORKSHOP

The Wingham District of the Ministry of ,
Natural Resources (MNR) is i iting public
involvement in preparing their new
fisheries management plan.
The fisheries resource provides important
recreational,, environmental and economic
benefits. In fact, the sport and commercial
fisheries of the Wingham District (which in-
corporates all of Huron and Perth, and
small portions of Bruce and Wellingotn
Counties) are a multi-million dollar in-
dustry - a significant economic benefit in
what is mainly an agricultural area.
Because the fisheries resources of
southwestern Ontario are limited, and there
are many conflicting demands for what is
available, an effective management plan is
needed. MNR staff have compiled a sum-
mary entitled "Background Information
and Optional Management Strategies"
which outlines objectives, issues and possi-
ble strategies and tactics for managing
fisheries to optimum advantage to the year
2000.

Intrudex breaks window
and escapes at Colborne
By Allison Clark
On October 6 the Grade 4-5 class at Col-
borne Central School returned to the school
to find a broken window.
A grouse had flown through the 'window
over the weekend and flown out again, leav-
ing theclass with 'a cold room. To add to
their problems the school's heating system
was not working. The students were forced
towear their jackets and gloves throughout
the day to combat the cold.
Mr. Brereton brought in some frogs and
turtles for the Grade 2-3 class to study. For
Thanksgiving this class wrote stories on
how' a turkey would feel about Thanksgiving
supper.
The Grade 6-7s are busy constructing an
aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem. In
simpler terms they are studying animals
that live in water and on land. •
$ eline Bouyer will be visiting the Grade 8
Frech class to help out. She is a French ex-
