Atom "A" team splits two league games

Down by one goal at the end of the first
period, the Goderich Atom "A" team
came. back to • defeat Exeter 7-3 in
Shamrock league play on O tober 4.
Behind early in the first .period,
Goderich tied it up at 4:57 into the game on
a goal by Chris Dixon.

Before the pi 1 v. is over Exeter again
took the lead, but the Atoms scored three
unanswered goals in the second to take the
lead. Dixon scored his second goal during
this scoring drive, while Bill Ingham and
Don Rivers also scored for Goderich.
Exeter was held scoreless in the third
while David Boyce, Andrew Scott and
Ryan Farrish scored for the locals.
Boyce and Ingham also contributed with
two assists each.
In a later game, on October 11, the
Goderich boys lost in a close game to
Parkhill by a score of 3-2.
Going into the second period they were
leading 1-0 on a goal by Jason Meriam,
however, Parkhill tied it up wit`1. ri the -first
minute of the second.
Goderich again took the lead six minutes
into this period on a goal from David
Boyce, but Parkhill came on to score two
goals in the third period to take the win.
Junior Vikings lose first -
place battle to Exeter
Panthers 21-13 in football

The GDCI,junior, Vikings lost round one
of their showdown with the Exeter Pan-
thers in Huron -Perth Conference football
last Thursday, dropping .a 21-13 verdict in
the first meeting of the two previously
undeafeated teams.
The victory gives the Panthers first
place in the regular season, but in all
likelihood the two teams will line up
against each other again in, the champion-
ship final on November 1 in Exeter.
The game last Thursday was one .that
could have gone either way. The Vikings
led 12-1 at half-time and 13-8 going into the
fourth quarter, but the Panthers scored
two fourth quarter touchdowns to win it.
The final Pather touchdown came with
three minutes remaining as the result of a
march set up when the Vikings fumbled

single for the Vikings.
Offensively theVikings moved the ball
well inside with Sean Wilson running for
174 yards and Jason Million for 55. The
Vikings' total offence was 309 yards with 16
first downs.. '
Defensively, the Vikings allowed..23 Pan-
ther first downs, with 16 of them coming in
the second half when the Vikings seemed
to tire.
The Vikings had trouble containing the
Panthers' offtackle runs, sweeps and
quarterback sneaks, but the Viking
coaching staff know what they have to
work on for November 1.
The Vikings will play a semi-final
playoff game here Thursday at 2 p.m.
