A good, healthy rivalry between schools is excellent, and probably necessary for quali- ty competition, but the rivalry between Goderich and South Huron has, over the years, degenerated into a bitter feud that goes beyond athletics. I believe all of us as coaches, teachers, fans and competitors have a responsiblity to end the stupidity. Let this incident be the last! Dear editor, I feel that I must write to the people of Goderich who no doubt have had their Negative opinions of South Huron reinforced by Thursday's football games. I have determined that 23 of us teachers were present during most of the junior game, but none heard any swearing although many of the cheers, in my opinion, boarded on the insulting. It appears that most of the real disturbances centred at one end of the bleachers. In talking with many students, two teachers and four Exeter parents, there ap- pears to be a case for provocation, but LET VERS again, in my view, there is,.no justification for demonstration of verbal abuse. We have tried to inculate a tone at South Huron that centres on mutual respect; unfortunately, there are moments when the effort seems wasted, but in spite of that, the students at South Huron are excellent people. This observation is supported by the number of students who came into my office voluntari- Sincerely B.F. Both teams played a very competitive and exciting game, except for one thing. When the fans from Exeter High School started to cheer, not all of them, but enough to leave a bad impression on the. Exeter school, they were very foul mouthed in comments and actions. Polite suggestions to tone it down were met by more swearing and ignorant Council regrets rude actions of few Dear editor, We, the Student Council of South Huron D.H.S. in Exeter would like to express our apologies for the rude behaviour of a few spectators at the league football game on Oct. 16 between the Panthers and Vikings in Exeter. This type of conduct was unnecessary, unsportsmanlike, and showed a lack of responsibility on the part of the individuals in question. It is hoped by all, that this was an isolated incident and will not reoccur in future games between our respective high schools. Respectively yours, S.H.D.H.S. An unexpected plant began to grow by their onion patch. "It grew and it gtew," said Mrs. Johnstone. 'We had never seen the like of it before."
