With a loving and caring parent at home
there would be less juvenile delinquency. I
also don't need to hear about quality time
rather than quantity time. Quality time is
always having the time to listen to your
child and to hug him when he's sad and to
put the band-aid on .his fresh cut.
I'm sorry Dr. Pearce, but a f family ca
on-
ly grow emotionally; physically and
spiritually when a parent is always there,
whenever the child needs him and that in-
cludes the hours of 9 to 5.

Why should other people be
forced to support your child
editor's note -- The Goderich Signal -star
received three letters against a municipal
day care centre last week which were
omitted because of a lack of editorial
space. We run them this week and
apologize for any problems or misconcep-
tions the omission of these letters caused.
Dear editor,
Day care is a never ending serpant that
grows and grows. If the taxpayers at
Goderich support this and town council has
said no, it is because they can see this. When
the taxpayer pays, nothing is too good and
price is no object. The more day care needs,
the more they will have to receive from the
taxpayer. No effort is tried to keep a lid on
expenses.
But through private support of day care,
"the people that use it," some effort to keep
costs down is tried.
Goderich does not need another tax
burden, like daycare. Town council said the
free ride is over. Sixty people don't speak
for the whole town. By the way, why should
other people have to be forced to support
your kid thrdQ'gh taxes.
Every property owner already supports
your kids by Public Schools Separate School
and high schools. Does the taxpayer ever
get a break from your kids? No, if you can
talk the council into your way of looking at
it.
Some one wrote in the paper the cost is
about $5 a person to the taxpayer. Not much
right? Five dollars given from me is dif-
ferent than five dollars being taken from
me. I resent it and will fight it at every turn
as a tax payer.
'You 60 people want daycare, then pay for
daycare not the public tax payer who has to
support you.
The Goderich; Council took a step to help
the overtaxed people of Uodcrich ketp
on expenses for a change.

Why was parents'
reported
rudeness not
Dear editor,
'This letter is in `response to the letters in
last week's Signal Star, about the defeat of
day care by our town council.
As a taxpayer who attends ofir Goderich
.town council meetings on a regular basis, I
too was appalled - not at council's decision
but at the rude behavior of a few of the
parents.
It was appalling to witness the verbal
abuse that four of our councillors took from
some members of the day care group.

Parents are fighting for
vital cause with day care
Dear editor,
I am writing to you with concern regar-
ding last week's decision of our town council
to turn down funding for a day care centre in
this I town. I thought Goderich was a pro-
gressive town but unfortunately I was
wrong.
We have to be realistic. These are the
1980's and many women are forced to go into
the work force and if they have proper child
care it makes their job a lot easier. Several
small towns in Huron County have good day
care centres, for example, Lucknow, Clin-
ton and Wingliam.
I am not affected by this decision of coun-
cil as my two children are in school and I am
fortunate enough to have an excellent
babysitter. I really feel for the women and
men who aren't as fortunate.
I do feel there is a great need for daycare
in this town and its surrounding areas. My
two children went to the Tuckersmith
Day Care Centre for two years and I found it
an excellent service to the community.
Maybe the councillors who voted against
this issue aren't concerned about their
children's well being but what about their
grandchildren?
I agree with Susan Hundertmark that
when election time rolls around in two
years, people will really think about who
they vote for. or get involved themselves in
municipal politics to see some positive
changes in our town.
Thank you to the parents who are fighting
for this vital cause.

Dear editor, There are lots of family's just "scraping,
I would like to say "yea!" to the nays in by" in order to stay home and raise their
regards to the day care centre issue. Why , children in a loving home atmosphere. This
should the Goderich and area taxpayers be
paying for day care for two working parents
lining their pockets?
I agree with having assistance for widows
and widowers and those who really and tru-
ly need it. But if the working parents of
Goderich really want a daycare centre let
them pay for all of the costs.
Why don't they raise money through
dances,' walk-a-thons or canvassing,
anything, but let those who support it, pay
for it. I refuse to pay for someone else's
child care when they own a home, have two
cars in the lane and are booking their trip to
the Carribean.
