We received 27 new reinforcements that's 34 men and; 1 officer io, all now so are having things just a trifle easier :,but not before it eves need- ed%Heed A Line trip up bo the volcano on Sunday but have told mother all about that in last letter. While on the highest p.'ak surveying the island with the glasses it wee wwonderful;to note the change in the island since our arrival here Aug, 18, 1915. We could see the 'vast nubmer of camps and hospitals.; On Monday evening we took walk from our camp to the lock over to the south of pier and bank home. Now where we landed there silts nothing not even a roadway or path from the pier on up, while now it is nothing but paved, road, cars and elect ric lights. There is la proved road con- necting all the camps and pier, have also a power house installed supply ing the pier and ordinence stores and blong part of the roadway. Each !camp has its own electric power plant with ezeception of our own and guess we don't get !any as we move again soon, •going .to Greece this time so trieinor has et.If so hope it is to some civilized 'place. An army of Gypos (Gyposare a bunch en men of Government 'tire from Alexandria and Cairo for a peastre an hour, two and a hall teats, They are the lowest of the low fel- lows that hang around the docks etc.) are set to work ,and paved roads are connected .with main one iib^ a day oar so. They have electric power houses on. wagons, one of these is see up and wires strung' and before the camp is !rightly started they have their own electric lights.. Anotb.r branch takes h hold of the water supply question, a huge condensor is erected down by the ;south pier, machinery put up, several arrays From 100 to50 *Ve of !Gypos rare set digging ,ditch and carrying pipe so that a 1 hospitals and units have water piped direct' to their door.
