Sifto Salt wins ladies slowpitch championship SPORTS SHORTS AFter three nights of postponed games, Go-4-Ettes and Sifto finally managed to play their third game in the best 3 out of 5 championship round in the -ladies recrea- tional softball A division. Sifto got off to a quick start scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. They ed one more run in each of the third, f urth and fifth innings. Go-4-Ettes scored one in the third. Barb's Babes take five points in play BY TD The GDCI junior Vikings reduced the number of undefeated teams in the Huron Perth Football Conference to two by defeating the Central Huron Redmen 27-12 here Thursday. Now the Vikings and the Exeter Panthers remain as the only unbeaten teams. The Panthers kept their record intact with a 19-0 shutout over the Norwell Redmen Thursday. The Vikings and Panthers have 3-0 won - lost records while the Clinton Redmen are now 2-1. This Thursday, the Vikings hest the Strat- ford Northwestern Huskies who are 0-3 following their 22-0 loss to Listowel last week. The Vikings piled up a 431 yard offensive effort against Clinton in picking up 21 first downs. Sean Wilson was the Vikings' most effective runner, gaining 195 yards. Pheng Troeung had 77 yards before rein- juring his hand in the second quarter. Greg. Alcock, with 65 yards, Jeff Boyce with 53 and Brian Lane with 41•yards also ran well. Wilson and Troeung each hadone touchdown. The Goderich Vikings passed with flying , colors in their first real test in Huron -Perth Conference junior girls' basketball play here Thursday y dfeating Stratford Nor- thwestern 51-48. The Vikings had won their first three league games this season with ease but they knew Northwestern would provide stiff competition. - The Vikings led throughout the game, sometimes by as much as 15 points, but Nor- thwestern battled back to make it 14-6afterlo se. Goderich started strong,leading the first quarter and 26-18 at halftime. The margin was 40-31 going into the last quarter, but Stratford outscored the Vikes 17-11 in the final eight minutes pull within three points of the winners by the buzzer. Goderich had two starters, Rhonda Teal and Mary Jo Evans foul out, but Shelley Adams came into the game and played well. Maureen Stapleton starred offensively, scoring 22 points for Goderich. Evans had eight and Teal had six before fouling out. Pam Fritzley had a strong game, scoring six points. Adams threw in four points and defensive standout Krista Collinson also had four points. Barb's Babes took five points from Marionettes in Monday Night Ladies League action at Little Bowl. The Babes were led b.y Bev Whetstone,202, Dorothy Bourdeau,206, Barb Almasi,216 and Shirley Kennedy, 256 single and 680 triple. The Marionettes took two points on the strength of Marilyn Ban- nister's 228 single and 560,triple. Del Geddes rolled singles of 205, 210 and 233 and 648 triple to lead the Oldtimers to seven points. Steve Linlater scored the first Goderich goal midway through the first period with Brandon 'Corriveau assisting. David Lumley scored the second novice goal and Linklater added his second of the game in the final minute of the second period on an unassisted effort to, boost Goderich into a 3-0 lead. Exeter scored after one minute of Play in the third period to make the game close at 3-1, but Goderich produced three more goals in the period, to one for Exeter, to produce the 6-2 final score. Lumley scored his, second goal of the game midway through the third period while Corriveau and Bryan Currie scored one goal each for Goderich.
