Couple get
The marriage of Barbara Mae Blake to
Damon Webster of Santa Monica, Califor-
nia, took place in Hawaii, in ,a quiet
ceremony on September 5. Barbara is a
daughter of Mrs. Olive Blake of Lucknow
and the late Cecil Blake.
Joel and Katie Bendig of Goderich spent
the weekend with their uncle and aunt Tim
and Wanda Hodges while their parents en-
joyed a trip to Niagara.
Sympathy is extended to Jean
Broughton on the death of her cousin Ed
Blackwell of Lucknow on Thursday. A
legion service was held on Friday evening,
with the funeral and interment on
Saturday.

JAMES GORDON McPHEE
A well known Goderich resident, Jim
McPhee, died at Alexandra Marine and
General Hospital on October 5, 1986. He was
58 years old.
Born on December 3, 1927 in Colborne
Township, he, was the son of Mrs. Edith A longtime Seaway skipper, Captain John

and nephews.
Mr. McPhee was predeceased by his
father, Gordon, by one son James Bruce,
and by one brother Thomas.
Funeral services were held on October 8
at North Street United Church, Goderich
where Mr. McPhee was a member. Rev.
Robert 0. Ball officiated at the service. Mc-
Callum and Pella Funeral Home, Goderich
was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
,.Pall bearers were Mr. McPhee's six
nephews, Tom and Scott Biddie, Jim and
Tom Brown and Kevin and Dan McKay.
JESSICA ELIZABETH MCLELLAN
Jessica Fihzabeth McLellan, 12 days old,
of Goderiohi4died,Friday,•Oct.'3, 1986 at St.
Joseph's Hospital, London.
Daughter of Gordon McLellan and Diane
Gauley, she was born Sept. 21, 1986.
She is surived by one brother Benjamin
and one sister Abigail, both of Goderich,
grandparents Cliff and Charity McDonald
and Harold and Agnew Gauley, all of
Goderich, great ,grandmother Mary Laver-
ty, of Goderich and aunts and uncles, Gor-
don McDonald, George and Joanne
McDonald, Peter and Dianne McDonald,
Paula McLellan, Lori Currie, Kathie and
Jim Denomy, Bill and Val Gauley and Mark
and Sandra Law.
Funeral services were held on Monday,
Oct. 6 at McCallum and Palla Funeral Home
with Rev. Arthur Scott of the Free
Methodist Church officiating. Interment
Maitland Cemetery.

ed woodworking and running his hobby
farm near North Augusta.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Emma
(Dixon) MacDonald, whom ^ he married
December 16, 1965; six daughters, Piggy
Devine of St. Louis, Missouri; . Kathy
MacDonald -Snyder of Brockville; Susan
MacDonald of Chatham; Missy Borrett of
Langley, B.C.; Shirley Colligan of Cobourg
and Heather MacDonald of Brockville; two
sons Jack of Prescott and Billy of Ottawa
and by three stepchildren, Hubert Hutt of
Burlington, David Hutt of Shannonville and
Bonnie Madden of Belleville.
Captain MacDonald is also survived by 21
grandchildren and three great-

He was predeceased by his brother Archie
MacDonald of Stratford in 1981.

Penn wins
contest
On Saturday, Oct. 4, the Area 10
Toastmaster Impromptu and Humorous
Speech Contests were held at The Bedford
Hotel. Members, contestants and guests
from the London, St. Thomas and Goderich
Toastmaster clubs met for an evening of fun
and competition.
The contest toastmaster, Brian Marsh, in-
troduced the Impromptu . Speech com-
petitors, who were required to speak on the
word "Jest" without anY prior preparation.
Winner of this contest was Don Devine from
St. Thomas, with runners-up Harold Usher,
London and Bill Metcalfe, Goderich.
The Humorous Speech was the main con-
test of the evening, with five competitors.
After listening to these excellent
speeches,the judges declared John Penn of
the Goderich "Circle City Toastmasters
Club" as the winner. Runners-up were Emi-
ly Neilson and Betty Birrell, both experienc-
ed speakers from London clubs.
Penn now advances; to the Waterloo con-
test, where the Godarich club members
hope he will capture tle divisional title.
