Mr. Chapman will take over from current General Manager Brenda Doner who is leaving to pursue other interests. Bye for now. Love, Jessica Mr. Chapman comes to Blyth with seven year's experience in arts administration. The majority of his experience has been with theatres similar in mandate to the Blyth Festival, that is, with theatres that produce primarily new Canadian plays. From 1979 to 1986 he held various positions at Torento's Tarragon Theatre, with duties ranging from administration, fund-raising and group sales to house management and box office. He also managed Tarragon's training and rehearsal facility, the Maggie Bassett Studio. Since January of this year he has also been serving as General Manager of Masterclass Theatre. a Toronto -haled Crowds surpass Brenda Doner, general manager of the Blyth .Festival, has announced that more people attended the 1986 festival season than ever before. Over 36,000 people attended 92 perfor- mances in Blyth Memorial Hall this sum- mer, up over 2,000 from 1985's total. Despite an increase in the number of per- formances available in the season, average attendance at each performance increased over last year, surpassing expectations and budget projections. Attendance averaged 81 percent over the season, as compared to 78 percent achieved in the 1985 season. Gone To Glory by Suzanne Finlay proved the most popular show with audiences, averaging 95 percent attendance, followed by Drift by Rex Deverell with 87 percent attendance. • Another Season's Promise by Keith Hi! Mr. Chapman has also been an active member of Theatre Ontario ..nd of the Toronto Theatre Alliance,and has had ex- perience as a stage and film actor, as a restaurant owner and manager, and as a social worker. He was raised in New Liskeard in Northern Ontario, but has lived in Toronto for a number of years. "I am eagerly looking forward to working with a theatre of the Blyth Festival's stature and reputation", said Mr. Chapman. Mr. Chapman will be resident in the Blyth area from November 3, 1986, with full duties as general manager to begin in January, 1987. from the ' expectations Roulston and Anne Chislett averaged 76 per- cent attendance, as did Ken Dyba's Lilly, Alta. The season closer, Colleen Curran's Cake - Walk, played to 72 percent houses throughout its three-week run in August and September. Cake -Walk is currently in the midst of a cross -Ontario tour of 15 locations and 22 performances which concludes in London on October 12. The Blyth Festival's fall and spring per- formance series is now underway, with Let- ter From Wingfield Farm, Valdy, Anton Kuerti and the musical Pump Boys and Dinettes planned for adults, as well as Drums!, Valdy and Tug Of War for children and families. The Blyth Festival will also present, for the first time this year, a special Christmas family show. A Prairie Boy's Winter, on December 13'and 14.
