Mr. Chapman comes to Blyth with seven
year's experience in arts administration.
The majority of his experience has been
with theatres similar in mandate to the
Blyth Festival, that is, with theatres that
produce primarily new Canadian plays.
From 1979 to 1986 he held various positions
at Torento's Tarragon Theatre, with duties
ranging from administration, fund-raising
and group sales to house management and
box office.
He also managed Tarragon's training and
rehearsal facility, the Maggie Bassett
Studio.
Since January of this year he has also
been serving as General Manager of
Masterclass Theatre. a Toronto -haled
Crowds surpass
Brenda Doner, general manager of the
Blyth .Festival, has announced that more
people attended the 1986 festival season than
ever before.
Over 36,000 people attended 92 perfor-
mances in Blyth Memorial Hall this sum-
mer, up over 2,000 from 1985's total.
Despite an increase in the number of per-
formances available in the season, average
attendance at each performance increased
over last year, surpassing expectations and
budget projections.
Attendance averaged 81 percent over the
season, as compared to 78 percent achieved
in the 1985 season.
Gone To Glory by Suzanne Finlay proved
the most popular show with audiences,
averaging 95 percent attendance, followed
by Drift by Rex Deverell with 87 percent
attendance.
