In balloon experiments they learned that air has weight, and they also learned how to "predict". They've written balloon stories and they've eaten balloons (well...cookie balloons! ). They're now exploring trees with eight tree centres. They've also been introducing each other. Last week we introduced David Adams, and this week its Simone Bleeker's turn. New authors Mrs. Worsell's grade 5 class has written two books called "How to Feed a Kid" and "How to Feed a Monster." It would take a very innovative cook to prepare some of those menus! Sports at Brookside The 50 km club started Tuesday September 23. Interest is high for this club at Brookside. There are so many people par- ticipating that you can just follow the crowd to find the track! e studying - and The junior and senior soccer houseleagues are underway however the ram seems to be' limiting the number of games played. Students are trying out for the soccer teams for the tournament in early October. V.I.P. Studies Mrs. Tebbutt's grade 6 class has begun a program called V.I.P. - Values, Influence and Peers. This program is run in conjunc- tion with the OPP officer, Constable John Marshall and . the Grade 6 classroom teachers. "Our Tree" Miss Mathers' grade 1 have been discuss- ing "Fall, a Time of Change." They made colourful leaf prints and they have decorated their classroom tree. "Our Tree" is a special tree which they have adopted from Alton's bush. During the year, they will be doing ac- tivities around their classroom tree. They love Our Tree!". Research words, nature Mrs. Ottewell's grade 3 class is learning alphabetical order and dictionary skills m the library with Mrs. Blake. Mrs. Scott's grade 4 is doing "Take 45" BROOKSIDE BROADCAST research on plants or animals of the "Fencerow Comunity." sale Plans are underwayBook to have a new book sale on October 9 and 10. Proceeds will be used to, buy exciting new books for our library collection. Humour studies Mrs. Allen's grade 7 students are well into an Integrated Unit on "humour". Groups have been organized and centres have been established. Other activities Friday is Hot Dog Day, the first of many! ! Each Wednesday, our class travels to Vic- toria Public School to participate in Family Studies and Industrial Arts Activities. The students are enjoying their afternoon in Goderich. Senior Choir at Brookside has begun. Each day 1, grade 7 and 8 students meet CHECK AND COMPARE s ating balloons with Mrs: Jewitt in the gym at 12:50 pm. Mrs. Ottewell will be occompanying this choir. Junior Choir will begin next week with Mrs. W-orsell as director, and Mrs. Jewitt accompanying. This choir will be made Up of grades 4, 5, 6 students. Primary Choir will be directed by Mrs. Clarke and accompanied by Mrs. Young. Look for us at concert time! Campaign Speeches On Friday, September 26 there was an assembly to hear speeches from candidates for Students Council.
