Mrs. Tom Haggitt, Lillian Leatherland and Mrs. Robert Peck arrived home from a two day trip to Manitoulin Island. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Anderson spent last weekend with their son, William at Newmarket. Paul Popp of Lonesboro had his appendix removed in Clinton Hospital last week. James Towe of London, formerly of Auburn, died in his 86th year. Our sympathy to the family. Mary Young of Goderich, formerly of Auburn, is a patient in Clinton Public Hospital. Mrs. George Beattie, former Auburn teacher and daughter-in-law, Mrs. George Beattie of Unionville called on former pupils in Auburn area recently. She was the former Marie Welsch. KNOX UNITED CHURCH SERVICE The minister Gary T. Shuttleworth con- ducted the morning service at Knox United Church. Lori Millian was organist. The Junior Choir sang "Be Wise" under the direction of Mrs. Allan Webster and Mrs. Gordon Gross as pianist. The minister chose for his sermon, Holding on during the Struggle. Offering was received by Teadde Bakker and Ken Ramsey. KNOX U.C.W. The Knox United Church Women held SIIMIRTNIMMIIMINISOMINT AUBURN Mildred Lawlor, 526-7589 their general meeting on September 25 at the church. Betty Marsh opened the meeting with a skit. Other members of the cast were Mrs. John Durnin, Dana Bean and Mrs. Jack Armstrong. The audience was involv- ed also and learned how to be a leader. Suggestions were givenon getting everyone involved, planning a good pro- gram and gaining confidence m your work. Miss Marsh then handed out different assignments and the three groups had to lay out the plan for their assignment Miss Marsh then spoke about the leaders in the Bible and Mrs. Allan Webster read passages about Moses, who became a leader and Mrs. Oliver Anderson read the Scrip- ture about early followers and the disciples of Jesus. Miss Marsh closed with this motto, Chris- tian leadership is the act of serving others and led in prayer. Mrs. Tom Cunningham vl?as the accom- panist for the hymn which followed, Offer - Tiger Dunlop institute hears about Lucknow, India Twenty-seven Institute members and guests attended the Tiger Dunlop Women's Institute meeting in Colborne Township Hall on Thursday Sept. 25 at 1:45 p.m. Stella Reaburn opened the meeting, reading an Autumn poem. The roll call "A • product. we would miss if farmers went on strike" showed how important the industry of farming really is. The 35th Huron County Women's Institute Rally will be in Walton Community Centre on Oct. 6 at 9:30 a.m. and the London Area convention will be Oct. 16 and 17 in London. A Health Fair will be held in Goderich District Collegiate on Nov. 4 with subject of nutrition. The 1986 Huron County Women's Institute Scholarship award -was won by Lisa Duizer, of Londesboro. The vice-president, Dana Bean then con- ducted' the business meeting. Mrs. Peter Verbeck led a memorial service in honour of one of the group's late members, Mrs. B. Marsh, who is sadly missed. 4-H CLUB The Auburn 4-H Club met on Saturday, September 27 at the home of Glenyce Mc Clinchey. It was the first for Milk Makes It with approximately 17 members. The club's leader is Rosemary Kibble with assistant leader, Glenyce McClinchey. Election of officers was held with the following results: President, Tonya Boomstoppel; Vice-president, Denise Gross; Secretary, Anita Gross; Press Reporter, Julia Glenn. i ne ron call, which was answered by each member, was to name a food that is a good source of calcium. Information was read and discussed on how to avoid calcium deficiency. Members participated by making nachos and a raspberry drink. The meeting was,, closed by the Club's president, Tonya Boomstoppel, with the 4-H motto, Learn to do by Doing. Gertrude Keitting, 684-8076` "Don't you Quit" had a splendid message for all. The guest speaker Lenore Bradley gave a splendid talk on her travels around the world emphasizing her visit to Lucknow, In- dia. She gave a glimpse of the way people live, the agriculture or what is grown and raised in the various countries and showed a few specials she brought back. OBITUARIES We Can Show You How. TINA TURNER "Break Every Rule" HELEN HAMILTON Mrs. Helen Draycott (Hoyes) Hamilton died at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Cen- tre on September 12, 1986 at the age of 78 years. She was born on June 2, 1908 at Toronto. She lived in Goderich for a number of years, and then moved back to Toronto, where she worked for Cuttler Glass Co. for a number of years., She was quite active in the Church and en- joyed lawn bowling and travelling. She was predeceased by her parents, three brothers and her husband, John in 1978. She is survived by two sons, Tim Bell of Kitchener, and Frank Naegele and his wife Lriane of Red Deer, Alberta; two grand- children Kelly Parson of Red Deer, Alberta and Mellissa Randal in Guam and one brother-in-law, William Naegele of Goderich. Funeral service was held at the Eventide Funeral Chapel, Red Deer on Tuesday, September 16 with the Reverend Gordon Taylor officiating.
