Young Canada Hockey Week
March 6 - 14, 1987
Young Canada Hockey Week was first started in 1949 by a group of
men interested in organizing a fun competition for Pee Wee aged
hockey players. Guy Emerson, Stan Stokes and 'Nip' Whetstone
organized the first tournament in the world for these young
players.
In 1967 the tournament grew to 100 teams featuring teams from
British Columbia, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and the
United States.
Today, Young Canada Hockey Week is organized and run by the
Goderich Lions Club. About 67 teams now take part in the 10
day tournament.
