You are in the middle of the lake, looking into the stream coming from its journey through the woods. These woods are quite thick and the sun is jusi rising or setting behind it, giving the BIRTHDAY CLUB Hi, My name is Ian Young and this is my dog Dietter. I can hardly wait to begin the "ter- rible twos" on my birthday, Sept. 11. I'd like to wish my cousin Michael Lassaline, who will also be two this month, a happy birthday. Bye for this year. Iau rs and shapes ould be enjoyed ROUND 'N ABOUT ear With Riterthe Rethburrl sky a nice pinky color and seen also in the reflection at the mouth of the stream. The snow catches all colors and is piled nicely along the twist of this tiny river. To your right, you see a lovely shade of Alizarin red, hard to describe but I have seen it in fields near the highway or brush or sticks which later turn into ordinary scrub that the farmers,.hate and leave alone. Was it Dogwood? • This red "scrub" has a very short life - but is very beautiful where there is snow and the dark wet ground of spring. So, after that ter- rible description of my nice painting - I've forgotten what I was going to tell you - but most important - I remembered the name of the outstanding color - Alizarin! That painting had more attention and comments than any I have ever done. It was quite simple but I'm sure it was that row of scrub of spring color that taught your eye and made it beautiful. Until I began writing about it the name of the color has escaped me. People laughed when I couldn't say it - just had a blockage - even when I looked at the colors on the palette it wouldn't come to me. How about that! Things are pretty quiet now. The kids are back in school - but I'll bet it was bedlani in the school yard - seeing old friends again, seeing how some of them had grown and some hadn't. The annual back to school bit must be hard on some of the more sensitive kids who Hi, My name is Janelle Kimberley Wood. I live in Seafotth with my Mom and Dad, Dianne and Ralph and younger sister, Katie who is three. I will be six years old Sept. band am in Grade 1 at Huron Centennial School, Brucefield. Thank you for letting me join your birth- day club. Love Janelle really notice their pals and how much each one has grown. I think we are going to have a great many "giants" in the future - I hope they can live up to their size. The summer games were finished off nicely and many people came from far distances to watch the games and have a last fling of summer in lovely Goderich. Some years ago a beautiful lady gave me a trinket and said now you, too, are a turtle. I have never found out any more about turtles. I know there is a poem and a story that goes with this but I do not have it. - Do you? Are you a turtle!? I hope many of you saw the lake last .Weekend from the lighthouse park. Just before a storm it is flat, striped - in many colors and also patched. The colors are unbelievable and I hope you saw them. So many people glance at things - but see nothing - no shape, no special colors - nothing to recall later - with pleasure. Being able to see - yes, really SEE things is a wonderful gift. I feel sorry for those who cannot - but to them it is a shrug of the shoulders and "who cares?" This is an attitude and a doggone poor one - I live with one who says "green is green" and there you are. But I believe, if you really try you can see the colors and shapes. Shapes - that's all some guys see - some to whistle at and others to forget. What a way to live. If you are caught up in this - I hope you will try to see and feel the atmosphere around you. You'll enjoy it. The trees are starting to tell us fall is tea1- ly -here. The cooler air - but still hot sun, makes you think of mitts and caps, where did you put them? Do enjoy this fall weather. See the big black tree at South and Britannia Rd. begin- . ning to show lighter colors. Soon it will be a blah! - sandy color, so enjoy now.
