competitive field dor Ron
Meagan Memorial Pace
On Thursday Septeli:nber 4, 1986,
Goderich Raceway will host the Ron
Feagan Memorial Pace. This pace is
dedicated to a man who started his career
as a youngster on Goderich Raceway and
who went on to become a giant in his sport
and profession - a member of the Canadian
Harness Hall of Fame.
A brief survey of the highlights of his
career indicates that as a horseman Ron
Feagan was one of the best. His career
achievements include a number of firsts.
He was the first Canadian driver to win --
$500,000 in purse earnings in a Single
season; he was the youngest driver to
drive a two minute mile; he was the first
Canadian driver to win 200 races in a
single season.
Other career achievements of Ron
Fegan include: 11 consecutive seasons of
averaging 200 wins; twenty four times
leading money winner on the O.J.C. cir-
cuit; and Canada's Horseman of the Year
in 1965.
Ron Feagan was also owner, trainer and
driver of H.A. Meadowland - the winner of
the Canadian Pacing Derby in 1966.
When Ron Feagan died in January 1979,
at the age of thirty six, he had amassed
3,036 career wins and $6.6 million in career
purse earnings.
Ron Feagan's career record sets him
apart as one of the best race drivers that
ever lived - anywhere, anytime. It is to the
memory of Ron Feagan and his spec-
tacular career that the 8th Annual Ron
Feagan Memorial Pace is dedicated.

is making his debut appearance at
Goderich for the Memorial Pace. •

Huff picks up low gross
at Maitland Ladies' Night
Summer is slowly but surely drawing to
a close, with the shadows getting longer
and the days shorter. The various matches
are being played and in most cases are
down to the semi-finals.
Men's night last Monday was rained out.
They played on Thursday but haven't seen
fit to get the results to me. Ladies' night on
Tuesday was alsorainedout but we played
on Wednesday with a field of 12, better
than expected on such a cold windy day.
Marie Huff came in with 1st low gross and
net winners were Mary Lapaine, Sally
MacEwan, Bev Jeffrey and putts won by
Grace Neville.
Also on Wednesday, the culmination of
the Junior program, with a tournament.
First low gross was carded by Raymond
Bedard (carrying irst loon a w net had a 4 -way
tradition I
see, Raymond).•
tie with Tim Harrison, Corey Haylow,
Jason Cook and Chris O'Neil vying for
honours.
Second low net had Ken Strong and An-
drew Scott tied. Third low net saw Jamie
Redmond in sole possession. Closest to the
pin on No. 1 and No. 5 were Jamie Red -
ON THE
BALL
et the Maitland
mond and Corey Haylow respectively.
Jason Cook and Cl1Irris O'Neil tied for the
least number of Fitts.
Clive Caswell" had worked with the
Juniors all season, and it must make him
feel pretty good to get such a good turnout.
Many thanks Clive and to all who assisted
you.
Bob and Joan McDougall continue in
their winning ways, netting the low net for
the field at the Owen Sound Matrimonial
Tournament. Edna and Fred Looker card-
ed second low gross in B flight at the same
tournament. Fred and Edna also placed
2nd low net at the recent "Dundee 100",
with 104 couples entered. At the Sunset
;Tournament last Wednesday Jean Bell
brought home some of the bacon with win-
ning 3rd net in her flight.
