Residential house varices increase across Canada
Almost all communities in Ontario have
witnessed major increases in the price of
residential resale housing in the past year.
Virtually every centre covered in the most
recent issue of the Royal LePage Survey of
Canadian House Prices report higher
prices, with Western Ontario communities
showing some of the largest increases in
resale values.
"Moderate interest rates and strong
employment have created a very active
market for residential housing in Western
Ontario," comments Bernie Vogt, Vice
President and Divisional General Manager
for Royal LePage in the area. "This demand
is putting significant upward pressure on
selling prices."
Communities in Eastern and Northern
Ontario are also experiencing strong
markets, according to Elmar Moser, Vice
President and Divisional General Manager
for that area.
Moser and Vogt made their comments
with the release of the July issue of the
Survey of Canadian House Prices. The
quarterly, cross -Canada study tracks the
estimated selling price of six categories of
housing in over 170 communities from coast
to coast.
In many Western Ontario communities,
including Cambridge, Windsor, Kit-
chener/Waterloo, and Guelph, price in-
creases in excess of 20 percent have been
reported over the past year for most
categories Of housing. Cambridge,

home in London is 10.4 percent higher at
$85,000.

Bungalow has increased from $67,500 in Ju-
ly,1985, to a current estimated selling price
