A and P employees vote
in favor of strike action
Employees of the A and P supermarket
chain have voted 98 per cent in favor of
strike action to back contract demands.
No strike date has been set although the
9,000 employees of A and P Food Stores
will be in a legal position to walk off the job
Thursday.
Bill Hanley, president of the United Food
and Commercial Workers Union says
mediated talks have been scheduled for to-
day (Wednesday, Sept. 3) and tomorrow.
"It's a province -wide situation and we'll
know more later on in the week. There's no
point in getting into the details of contract
demands right now," he says.
Local union representative Brian
Thompson would not comment.

This year the skating; hockey and ringette
season will be an extended one as the arena
crew is busy readying the ice surface for use
after this weekend.
