Throughout the busy tourist season, seven students have helped Curator Harold Erb with cleaning, selling souvenirs, cataloguing artifacts and plastering walls. "Their enthusiasm and dedication was not only refreshing," Erb said, "but also served as an added attraction to our historic site:" Debbie Harnett, one of the students, said she enjoyed working at the jail. "It makes you feel good because you're not a criminial." Debbie 'got the job at the jail through the government Futures program. She is now going to work at the Bank of Mon- treal in Lucknow and hopes to eventually HURON LIBERAL ASSOCIATION (Provincial) Founding Meeting Tuesday, September 2, 1986 8:15 p.m. Clinton Legion Hall Speakers: Hon. "Without subsidies from the Government of Ontario through the Ministry of Citizen- ship and Culture, the Ministry of Skills Development, and the Futures Program, these people-,twould not have the opportunity to work at this National Historic Site," Erb said. Erb also said that without the student employees during the summer, "we would not be able to accomplish half of what we did and would find it difficult to please the 13,000 people who visit each summer." Denise Corbett, another student, is head- ed to the University of Western Ontario to' take a Bachelor of Arts in History. She plans to take museum studies after that. Susan Gross is headed for the University of Waterloo to major in psychology, and the other four students, Shawn Borth, Stever Doherty, Dannielle Harman and Eric Raithby, are going.back to high school. All the students said they had a good time working at the jail and would like to work there again next summer. Erb said he usually -hires about five to seven students each year. Erb has been curator for three years. Kim Tisdale, who started working this year, is the registrar at the jail. The jail opens every year from April until November.
