Emergency plan requested
Huron County council asked Goderich to
compile a list of the names and locations of
all industries, bulk chemical, fertilizer and
fuel storage sites in town to be used for a
county emergency plan. It also requested
the amounts, frequency and routes travell-
ed by hazardous materials throughout the
county.
For the emergency plan, the town was
also asked to survey its citizens about any
equipment they own which could be used in
an emergency:. The equipment could in-
clude a four-wheel drive vehicle, a snow
vehicle, a water pump, a generator, a
mobile home, a boat or canoe, a CB radio
or ham radio, heavy equipment such as a
backhoe, chainsaw, tractor, snow blower,
cutting torch or loader or an auxiliary
heated facility. .
A letter to Goderich council requesting
that the town remove the bushes along the
railway track crossing North Harbor Road
was referred to the works committee.
Conny Sorenson told council in her letter
that it is difficult to see traffic around the
bushes when waiting to go down the road
and therefore dangerous.
"I have talked to a lot of people and they
all agree. And the people from the salt
mine and the trailer camp and marina
make a lot of trips and I am sure they
would agree too," she said.

Pete's Wagon
brings taste
of nostalgia to
Rotary car draw
Despite blustery winds and cool
temperatures, some 800 hungry area
residents turned out to enjoy a hot dog or
pop corn from Pete Zimmerman's wagon on
Saturday night at the Courthouse Park.
Young and old alike enjoyed food served
up just the way it was when Pete ceased
operations some 14 years ago. Prices were
the same as they were m 1972. Pete operated
the wagon from 1930 till 1972.
The generous helping of nostalgia was
served up in conjunction with the Rotary
Club's car draw. Proceeds from ticket sales
on the the 1986 Pontiac Grand Am were.good
and the group is confident that they will ex-
ceed $10,000. The winner of the car was
Brian Raithby, son of Harold Raithby of
R.R. 5, Clinton.
It -was an evening to reminisce for folks
the like of Charles and Elsie Moore who
remember well Pete's Wagon when it sat on
Hamilton Street. They were confident that
the hot dogs they bought from the wagon
would be as good as they were back then.
It was also a time for Pete himself to sit
and chat with old friends and make some
new ones. "Mr. ! "•3te said indignantly when
someone addressed him as Mr. Zimmer-
man. "Call me Pete.
Ross Cummings, a fri of Pete, got in a
few digs during the mg's festivities.
"You're not going to eat o e of your own hot
dogs are you Pete," he asked.
"Of caurse I am," responded Pete. And he
did too.
Heritage properties
Goderich council designated two proper-
ties in town under the Ontario Heritage
Act. Both the Judges' House at 85 Essex St.
and the Ford House at 34 Wellington St. S.
were designated to have architectural and
historical significance.
