building of airplanes.
Gus Chisholm was presented as one of
Canada's old-timers and had to accept the
fact that he was a pioneer in the movement,
having built the third registered home -built
aircraft in this country in the newly formed
E.A.A. of Canada in the mid -fifties.
Although the weather was unto -operative
on Saturday morning with a bit of fog and
low cloud, the skies cleared around 11 a.m.
and a tremendous show was enjoyed by
thousands of spectators.
A highlight of the day for Gus was when
the, aircraft,he built thirtyyears ago arrived
cflown ,by thg,tleW muff B.ei'l~Gallal r
of Cumbermere, Ontario.
In the interview, Gus reminisced of the
early days when he and Keith (Hoppy)
Hopkinson (the founder of E.A.A.C.) would
fly to Orillia and see as few as three or four
home-builts on the field.
On Saturday, the field was literally.
covered -with this type of aircraft built by a
new generation of young flyers.
