(photo by Mike Ferguson) Construction on Wellington leaves area in shocking condition { Dear editor, During the last 10 days where oh where has everyone been? What are the Mayor, the councillors, the police and the depart- ment of Public Health doing while the cor- ner of Wellington and Elgin has been in such chaos? Hundreds of trucks have not been re- routed, and as they turn the corner coming and going they have raised a dense fog of dirt and dust. Then ton the T auto trnr'kc with their land Red Cross thanks Goderich Dear editor, Last May, The. Maple Leaf Chapter IODE sponsored the Canadian. Red Cross campaign. On Aug. 6, a batik draft in the sum of $7,335.77 was turned over to John Mulvihill, Regional Executive Director of the Red Cross. This is a substantial increase over 1985 and can only be • attributed to the generosity of the citizens of Goderich. I would like to thank all the canvassers,. team captains, organizations, service clubs and the citizens of Goderich for their time and donations which have resulted in a suc- cessfd 1986 campaign. Sincerely, Linda Murphy (Mrs. H.J.) eampaign.Co-Orclinator._ .Joe Snider built the Dairy Bar In regards to the letter in last week's Signal -Star by Katherine Nivins "Dairy Bar Corrections". Yes! Mr. Joseph Snider built and owned the Port Albert Dairy Bar. He also had, Mr. and Mrs. George Baechler manage it for him, who hired Mabel Grey and Evelyn Breckow (Brockle bank) as part time help. To this I am definitely sure. Eugene C. McGee LETTERS uncontrolled, noise, have turned corner with uncontrolled speed and gusto, that the im- penetrable mists have followed them up Wellington Street to Quebec, leaving inches of dirt in the road, that the road -sweeper and water wagon have neglected to clean up. This has been a shocking condition for all of us. Where is the Christian attitude of con- cern? Who is responsible for the management? Constance Townshend GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20, 1986—PAGE 5 cation and understanding will luewater neighbors alleviat fe s of Dear editor, I feel I must respond to the letter to the editor signed "a deeply concerned area citizen" regarding the Bluewater Centre. I too am a neighbor of this institution and I have children. In the beginning, last year, I felt ap- prehension of having the. young offenders "next door" but that was short lived. I and my children have been educated about the young men that live there and have gained incredible insight into "why they are there". My children are not afraid to be outside, 'at the beach and they have frequently slept out in our tent. We lock our doors because we always have, no matter where we have lived. As for the devaluation of property values, I know that the hysterical reactions of peo- ple living in the area is what will cause this - not the fact the centre is nearby. Three weeks following the, neighborhood meeting at the Bluewater Centre, I am still feeling appalled at the negative behaviour of some of the people there. Only through education and understanding will this fear be allievated. So come on neighbors - lets place our full support behind Carl Degrandis and his ao- ble, honest efforts to run the very best in- stitution of it's kind. The Bluewater Centre is a reality. The dictionary gives a definition of neighbor as "to associate with a neighbor in a friendly way; be sociable." Let's educate ourselves to realize we are all human beings capable of both positive and negative feelings. Three cheers for Dr Kahn's letter this week. Yours sincerely, Susan Scott. Tiger Dunlop Day was great fun Dear editor, I would like to write a letter of congratula- tions to the group of people who made such a success of Tiger Dunlop Day. We as a family had a wonderful time. The childrenenjoyed the morning ac- tivities with the vegetable critters and bicy- cle and wagon decorating contest and the parade with the piper to the park. The afternoon followed with a great deal of enjoyment for one and all. The baby con- test and old fashioned games followed by a walk to the beach with the piper once again were great. An historical touch was added with the town criers and old fashioned dress Reader congratulates Port Albert Dear editor, Would you please put a thank you in your paper for the great weekend we had at Port Albert for their 150 year celebration. The committees in charge sure deserve a lot of credit: I don't think they forgot a thing. Thank you very much George`and Ilene Fritzley and family contest. Down at the beach there was a love- ly ride on the boats and much much more! In today's busy times and fast pace it is such a great treat to have a relaxed, fun family outing and to enjoy good times with old and new friends and family. It was a weli run and greatly appreciated day! May I once again congratulate all the people who made this day such a success. We look forward to next year's celebration.
