ACTIVITY: Family/ Cern Roast August 9th, 1986 PAGE 16 —GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 13, 1986 Pickiers meet The fifth and sixth meeting of the Port AlbertPicklers and Preservers were held at the home of Tracy Black on August 5. Eleven members showed a sample of a dried vegetable and Mrs. Hayden discussed pickling and harvesting vegetables. Mrs. Black talked about canning, dry storage and demonstrated canning tomatoes. Mrs. Hayden conducted a judging class of zucchini which everyone took part in. Achievement Day will be held at Dungan- non Fair on August 16. 80 attend reunion The Hill reunion was held at Harbour Park, Goderich on Sunday, August 10. Over 80 descendants of the late Hugh and Jane Hill, who care as pioneer settlers to this community over 135 years ago, enjoyed a bountiful pot luck meal and renewed old acquaintances. ' The blessing and opening remarks were presented by Cecil and Russel Hill. Greg and Beth Hazlitt" were in charge of the ar- rangements and Doris Harrison took care of the registration. - It was decided to have next year's reunion in August in Harbour Park. On August 8, Joan Crawford celebrated' her 25th year as a postal clerk at the Goderich Post Office. Hereshe is presented with a plaque, recognizing her years of service, by John 'McGuilre, acting supervisor. She says she has enjoyed her years of work at the post office aqd has seen a great amount of change take place during her stay there.(photo by Paul Hartman) - Lochalsh people enjoy ride on a boat Sunday visitors with Charles and Mayiae Wilkins were Laura and Mabel Campbell of Toronto. Elizabeth Wilkins, daughter of Charles and Mayme Wilkins, worked for three weeks at Five Oaks in Paris as a music instructor. Wellington, Kae and Jim Webster visited recently with Jack, Marion and Lloyd Smith in Clinton. Cecil Webster, son of Wellington and Kae Webster, spent a week of his holidays in Richfield, Ohio with his sister, brother-in- law and niece, Atlee, Jean and Tricia Wise. On Sunday, Atlee and Cecial came up to the Websters on their motorcycles. Jim and Kae took a;kide on the Lake View Glass bottom boat and found it very in- teresting. Kae enjoying it mostly when they went to Flower Pot Island, and found it so much more interesting to be so close to the island than seeing it from, a distance. When trolling for fish, it is impossible to get near the island on account of the rocks. Jim and Kae Webster visited with Bill and Myrtle Craigie in Tobermory and also their • two grandsons Chris and Danny Hindman, sons of Captain John and Charlette Hind- man also of Tbbermory. John is a captain on the Chi-Cheemaun. - Jim Webster spent his holiday at his parents' home, getting ready and then tak- ing a part in the Lucknow Craft Show where he displayed and sold some of his handy work. Marion MacLennan and Dick Evans of Sudbury are now at the home of Marion's mother Rhetta MacLennan. The MacDonald clan held their annual picnic on the MacDonald farm on Saturday, August 2 and in the evening had a dance in the Lucknow Community Hall. Finlay MacDonald had -his steam engine in Port Albert on Saturday, August 2 and took part in the parade there. A weekend visitor at the Wilkins' home was Elizabeth's friend Donna Pawluk of Hamilton. Visiting on the weekend with Ewen and Mari MacLean was Mrs. John Metcalfe of Petrolia. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Robb were recently on a twelve day bus tour of the eastern pro- ' vinces. The weather was good for most of their trip which they enjoyed very much. Mark and Heather Darling, children of Bob and Sandra Darling of Hanover, are spending a few days with their grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Robb. Visiting with D9rothy Finlayson during the weekend were some of her family, Paul and Jane Emberlin of Toronto; Rod and The Goderich Recreation Departmept and The Huron Historic Jail Presents eklbtea 4 e4teeze Seold Stang Pig aftei P19. Jeannie Finlayson and girls of Sarnia; Bill and Judy Finlayson and, John and Jerinine of Teeswater; Ken and Allen Finlayson of Toronto; Duncan Finlayson of Kincardine and Carol Finlayson and her husband John Balch and their two boys of Toronto. Some weekend visitors with Finlay and Margie MacDonald who also attended the MacDonald reunion were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Birkeug and family :of Chicago, Il- linois; Kathie Robson, Ryan and Phedra of Gros Point, Michigan; Mrs. Sadie Blue of Detroit; Mr. Meldrum of Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Coburn of Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Murray and two girls of Detroit; and Mr. and Mrs. John Agnew of Detroit. Julie and Michael MacDonald, children of George and Andrew MacDonald are now spending a week at Kintail camp. Finlay MacDonald got first prize with his steam engine in that class in the parade at Port Albert. • Visiting with Dorothy (D.A.) MacLennan on the weekend were Finlay MacLennan of Kitchener and Peggy Heffernan of London. Recent visitors with Barry and Betty Jones. were Betty's parents Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Hunter of Dorchester and aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Les Hunter of Thamesford.
