In April of each year Goderich Legion
Branch 109 invites applicants from former
Goderich District Collegiate students now
attending any university in Canada to app-
ly for the scholarships which have a
minimum value of $500 each and are
awarded to any university student (not
necessarily a veteran's son or daughter)
who has completed one full academic year
in medicine, engineering, dentistry or
credited with two years completed in any
honours program.
This year the committee chaired by
Comrade Neil Shaw received six applica-
tions for this scholarship and awarded
three scholarships with a total value of
$1500.
This scholarship was made possible in
1978 when Bruce Sully of The Sully Foun-
dation donated $10,000 to Legion Branch
109 to be held in trust by the Branch. The
club enjoys .s
bean contest and Larry Cushing was the
runner up. The item guessing contests were
won by Vera Penfound, Bonita Ten Hag,
^ Shang Lee Ten Hag and Christina Gross.
For several years now the pupils of.{nox

a foster child in the poorest country in the
Western Hemisphere, Haiti, where tuber-
culosis is a child killer. A pop bottle drive
will be held on August 18. All children and
interested parents will meet on the church
lawn. Anyone_ wishing to donate bottles or
wanting to make alternate arrangetarts
can phone 529-7682. .
