Family News Christians and eternal life BY THE REVEREND ROBERT J. CROCKER, RECTOR ST. GEORGE'S ANGLICAN CHURCH I like taking my holidays during August. There are many reasons for it, or so I keep telling myself. The weather, and especially the water, is warmer, the perch start biting again well on in the month- Really, though, I like my holidays during August because I can look forward to them, while many of you have had yours. And even though you may have been to Expo, or some other exotic place, I'm notthe least on tiea bit jealous because I ,have my of me and can enjoy it in anticipation. The three great Christian virtues are - faith, hope, and love. I know I have preach- ed to any number of sermons on faith and on love, but I do not recall hearing very many on hope. Yet we cannot live without hope, which is closely related to faith, because we need it to believe we will get better when we are ill, receive forgiveness when we do wrong, trust our friends when we need them, and believe what we are taught. We remember that other people sometimes fail us, but we hope and trust they will not. We can also hope in God Himself - not because we don't believe Him, but because our understanding is deficient. I have not yet experienced death, but I have the bless- ed hope of eternal life which enables me to NEWBORN NEWS 1111110.111110.11.111111.11111111/11.16 MINISTER'S STUDY VAN OSCH Bridget and Bernie would like to announce the birth of their son, Mark William. Thanks to Drs. D. and N. Pearce, Dr. Cauchi and nurses of 2E.-33 enjoy it in anticipation in something like the way I enjoy my holidays in advance. This sort of idea has given Christians a bad name because it is assumed that we.are living in hope rather than the reality of things: "pie in the sky" people. This would be true except for one thing: the hope becomes reality, just as my holiday does. God does not, of course, always give me a July -or -August option. But sometimes He does, which makes me very happy. And a happy holiday to you, too. • 1 Knox Presbyterian Church was the setting for the marriage of Richard Ryan and Gail Pinkney on June 21, 1986.
