Not Much .idn't
as Oldtimers J.o
On July 28, three games were played in -
the Goderich Ladies Slowpitch League.
The first game at St. Mary's diamond saw
Hot Shots defeat Meneset 7-4^ In a second
game at St. Mary's the Oldtimers scored
15 runs in the second inning to trounce Not
Much 25-3. Kim Good and Pat Petrie each
crossed home plate four times for the
Oldtimers. At GDCI Kim Austin had a
home run and two singles at Go-4-Ettes
out -scored Double Blue 13-5. Carol
Vanderheyden hit a triple for Double Blue.
Allison Graham hit two home runs and
crossed home plate five times, leading
Samuelson's to a 15-6 victory over Bruno's
ave much,
them 25-3
on July 29. Bonita Pollock hit a grand slam
for Bruno's. -
Sifto came on strong in the first two inn-
ings on July 30 to defeat Night Owls 13-5.
Barb Lassaline, Brenda Dineen and Joyce
Baer all had doubles for Sifto. Diana
Glousher had a home run for the Night
Owls.
On July 31, Bruno's crossed home plate
nine times in the fifth inning on their way
to an 18-12 victory over Nile. Bonita
Pollock blasted her second grand slam of
the week for Bruno's. Carolyn Dowds and
Elaine O'Donnell each had three hits for
Nile. The same bight Hot Shots moved into
Playoffs set to begin as
season draws to a close
The regular season play of the GMSL
has come to an end and the divisional
round robin play-off structure begins this
Tuesday.
This round of the play-offs will be com-
pleted by Labor Day weekend. The top
four teams in each division will then ad-
vance to an elimination round in
September. The season will conclude with.
our fall banquet and trophy presentations
on Sat. October 18.
Who will win those trophies is as much of
a question mark today as it was when we
began in early May. The B Division ap-
pears to be the most unsettled as only 8
points separate 8 teams after each have
played 21 games. Any of those teams are
capable of getting hot and winning the
division.
If the play in this past'weekend's tune-up
tournament is any indication off things to
come, then look out for the Elevators and
the Chiefs, cause they're on a roll.
In "A" division, Ideal Supply is on top
and undefeated to date but yet most bets
are on the Bulldogs to finally dethrone our
perennial champs. While they look for-
ward to the final battle, they had better
the Coyotes who are closing
now ignore vvyv.•.... --d
fast!
C division should be a battle between Sif-
to, Sunys and ' Gators, but in men's
slAvpitch, what should be and what hap-
pens are two different things more often
than not.
Goderich Squirts overwhelm
St. Columban 6-0 in soccer
Last Monday night in Goderich, the
Squirts overwhelmed St. Columban 6-0.
Centre -forward Mark "Big Train"
'Johnston drilled in five goals, and inside -
left Matt "Speedy" Hunter added a single.
Goal -keepers Sean Sieling and Mark "Shif-
ty" Hunter shared the shutout. Centre -half
Terry Pardys was a defensive. standout
throughout the game.
The Mosquitos tied 1-1 with St. Colum-,
ban in a game played in Goderich last
Tuesday night.
Smooth centre -forward Drew MacAulay •
tallied for Goderich, with right wing Don-
ny "Maradona" Rivers getting an assist
on the play: Coach Jeff Surridge felt that
his team put on a good 'defensive perfor-
mance, but would like to see sharper
finishing from his forwards.
In Squirt House League action last
Wednesday coach Murray Hunter's
Giants pulled six points ahead at the top of
the table with a 7-2 'victory over Bombers.
Matt Hunter scored three goals. Terry
Pardys two, and Mark Hunter and
Michelle Denomme one each for Giants
- Eric Chisholm and Greg McLarty notched
one apiece for Bombers. •
a three-way tie for third place in the stan-
dings by defeating Samuelson's 9-6 in a
highly defensive game at St. Mary's.
Another close game on July 31 saw
Meneset outscored Not Much 8-5 in a game
threatened to be postponed because of
darkness. Joy Orr had a strong night for
Meneset while Linda Wilson hit a 2 -run
homer for Not Much.
Warriors trounce
Marauders to even series
A five -point performance by Trevor Erb •
propelled the Warriors past the Marauders
in Goderich Recreational Ball Hockey
League action on Thursday, July 31.
The win deadlocks that playoff matchup
at one game apiece after the Marauders
won the opener 4-1.
Mark Rau tallied two goals for the War-
riors, while the Marauders got two from
Kevin Merriam in the -losing effort.
In the first game of the series, Merriam
notched a hat -trick to lead the Marauders.
In other action, Parkhouse got two -goal
games from Mark Frayne and Jeff
Denomme in a 6-1 win over the Rebels. The
,win gives Parkhouse a 1-1 tie in that series.
The Rebels won the first game 4-3 on an
overtime goal by Brad Armstrong;
Sherwood routed the Brewers ' 7-2 to
sweep that series 2-0. Grant Garrow was
the big scorer for Sherwood with, three
goals. In the first game, Sher wood clob-
bered the Brewers 9-0, on the strength of
five -point nights from John Thompson and
Andy Fowler.
