Engine No.999 pulled two flat cars. Cargoes of grain were taken into Goderich and coal brought out. In the Fall of 1911 operations came to an unexpected stop for the railway office was closed and salaries no longer paid. By the time the in- terest on the bonds came.due, Mr. Moyes had disappeared. Many attempts were made to continue the line but finally in 1917 the locomnotive, rails, flat cars, spikes, nails, ties, and timber were bought by the Ontario Hydro to be used by the Chippewa Power Project at Niagara Falls. The bonds matured in 1938 and although the interest payments had been honoured, the principal still had to be met and it was not until about 1942 that the total obligation of around one million dollars was paid off. The right-of-way running from Goderich to Kincardine was sold to the Department of Highways of Ontario in 1946 for one dollar. A remainingband-car and scraper used by the railway can still -be seen in the Huron County Museum. The motor vehicle had taken over and there were those who felt it was just as well that the railroad had never been com- pleted. In their words, it would never have paid for the grease on the axles!
