be colourful and exciting
Send in the clowns! Organizers expect
the Port Albert Sesquicentennial parade
will be one of the biggest and best ever
staged in the hamlet.
A fitting tribute to the 150th birthday of
Port Albert, the parade on Saturday,
August 2 at 1 p.m. will reflect the people of
the Port Albert area and their community
spirit.
Parade chairman Paul Doherty is pleas-
ed the way the parade is shaping up with
more than 80 entries already registered
and he anticipates close to 150 entries will
make up the parade on the big day.
The parade will feature entries in 10
categories including four classes of floats,
commercial, service club and organiza-
tions, families and comical, as well as anti-
que motor vehicles, antique 4arm
machinery, an• historical or heritage
category, three categories for horses,
riding, light and heavy and children's
classes which include best decorated bicy-
cle, best decorated tricycle or wagon and
miscellaneous. -
The most number of entries are in the
antique classes so the parade promises to
reflect the heritage of the community and
its history.
Prizes are being offered in all
categories. Prizes in the float categories
are first, $50, second, $25 and third, $20.
Prizes for horses include $110 for first, $85
for second and $60 for third., Children's
prices are first, $15, second, $10 and third,
$5.
Everybody loves a band and the parade
will feature five of them. The Goderich
Laketown Band, the Mount Forest
Cameron Highlanders, the Kincardine
Scottish Pipe Band, the Seaforth Girls
Trumpet Band which made several ap-
pearances at the Kingsbridge St. Joseph'S
Church garden party in the late 60s and the
Goderich No Notes Jug Band are all
expected.
The Shriners will also be sending five
contingents including the horse patrol, the
mini cars, the desert rats, the scooter unit
and the hillbilly unit.
'The parade will form in Doherty's field
at the corner of Wellington Street and.
Ashfield Street. It will proceed along
Ashfield Street, turn onto London Road
and proceed towards Christ Church, then
swing back onto Wellington Street and
return to Doherty's field.
All parade entries should assemble in
Doherty's field at the corner of South
Street and. Ashfield Street by proceeding
down South Street from Highway 21.
An entertaining parade full of colour,
history, music and fun, one thing is sure, it
will be a parade Port Albert will never
forget.

The Kinburn Foresters will serve
barbecued pork chops for dinner and the
gong show will take centre stage at 8 p.m.
Stars expected to appear include "Dealt-
- ly", the "Amazing Bob the MagicianV and
Singer "Vonnie Finat".
The shirt tail parade beginning at 10
p.m. is sure to carry on the fun into the wee
morning hourg of Monday.
Monday will see the soap box derby on
Hoy's,Hill followed by a magic show, face
'painting and puppet theatre for children at
the ball park stage.
In the afternoon the horse show pitching
tournament, the chain saw competition,
the bale throwing .contest, armwrestling
and tug of war will provide an afternoon of
entertainment for sports types.
Things willwind up Monday night with a
dance to Crippled Duck to bring a great
party to grand style conclusion.
