for the first time in Huron County at the air
base from Oct. 15 to 18, 1946. With exhibits
in the hangars and parking along the run-
way, the air base was an ideal location for
the match and 50,000 to 80,000 people
attended.
Today, McGee says the site of the air
base is a disgrace.
"It's abandoned. The runways are in bad
shape with weeds growing up in them and
the whole place is taken up with farmer's
fields. There should ,at least be a monu-
ment up there," he says.
To help keep the memory of the air base
alive, McGee has planned a reunion of
those involved with the RAF Air Naviga-
tion School on Aug. 2 at the Port Albert ball
diamond after the parade.
After placing ads in the British and
Canadian Legion magazines;` he's had a
dozen responses from veterans as far
away as Etobicoke, Owen Sound and Wind-
sor. Of course, the majority of RAF
veterans returned to England and none of
them are attending the reunion so far.
"I hope they can get acquainted and join
into the rest of the Port Albert Ses-
quicentennial activities," he says.
