mpetitions are hot at Dung
If variety is really the spice of life, the
Dungannon Fair must be the hottest event
in our area this sununer.
The fair starts on Friday evening,
Augustl5, with all kinds of things to see
and do. Among the things to do is a whole
range of competitions.
At 7 p.m. the children have a chance to
show off their favourite pet. The animal
doesn't need a pedigree to enter this con-
test because the judges are looking for
things such as the best dressed animal, the
pet with the longesrwhiskers, the biggest
feet, etc. There is a prize for 10 different
classes but the best part is that every
child, who shows a pet, receives a gift.
During the judging of the 1986 Fair
Queen, Contestants inside the hall, those
with energy to spare will have the oppor-
tunity to use some of it in chainsawing, log
sawing, balethrowing and armwrestling.
Approximately $300 will be distributed to
winners in these four contests. The good
part is that. competitors can register right
on the Dungannon Agricultural grounds on
the evening of August 15.
On Saturday, August 16, the competi-
tions continue with the heavy horses and
an English and'Western Horse Show star-
ting at 10:30 a.m.
Horseshoe pitchers will have a chance to
show their stuff at 1 p.m. when games are
played for men partners and for women
partners.
On the track, bike races will be held at
2:30, followed by an open one -mile run.
The run is a new contest and each entry
will receive a gift while prizes will be
awarded for first, second and third place
winners.
For those who enjoy a- little less
strenuous contest, the watermelon seed
spitting is for you. For 25 cents, you
non fair
receive a piece of watermelon from which
you save the best 3 seeds to use in one of
the four different classes. In the past, this
has been a messy, but refreshing,
competition.
A real favourite among fair -goers is the
baby show. There is a class for babies
under 4 months, 4 to 8 months and 8 to 12
months as well as a class for twins. Prizes
are awarded and each baby receives a gift,
compliments of Gerber Baby Foods Ltd.
Whether you're in great shape or not -so -
great condition, you'll be sure to find a con-
test just right for you at the Dungannon
Fair, August 15 and 16. Even if you don't
participate, all of the competitions can be
classed as spectator sports too,. so come to
Dungannon Fair and get involved for a
really hot time.

sible cost.
