Reagan Administration, south of the border, has decided to drop income tax to 15 per cent. The idea behind the decision being that the average working family will have bigger pay cheques, allowing the purchase of more items such as stoves, fridges, furniture, cars, etc. etc... Naturally, all this spending would create jobs on the assembly line. What a great idea`! ! They plan to make up the lost revenue by taking more frond the higher in- come bracket and big corporations. Now, since here in the Great White North we usually follow suit with our friends to the south, maybe we'll see a similar change on the average pay cheque. But I would be very much surprised. The boys in Ottawa wouldn't make such a change unless they were pressured into it. Why? Because they're in the high income group. Maybe there should be a little more pressure from the bottom. We're being taxed in both ears at the same time. When the Government gets behind, they just pass the buck to us and increase our taxes. It we gel behind, they lake our property or garnishee our wages. They should cut back on"'expenses and raises themselves and use the proceeds from lot- teries to pay off the national debt. Afterall, aren't they supposed to be working for us, not against us?! Sincerely T. A. Great-grandfather John Rudd settled on the Maitland Concession in 1847, while great-grandfather Henry B. Evans arrived in 1869. John Rudd's'eldest- daughter married Henry's son Percival. My father, "Frank Rudd Evans was born in Holmesville. Also of interest, I understand tliat a descendent of another branch of the family married George Ellis, who was publisher of the Goderich newspaper for a number of years. Norman Rudd of Chula Vista, California retired in 1978 from a career as an engineer and teacher. Long before that — some Sixty ygars ago — his grandfather wrote a letter describing how the Rudd family came bathe United States. That was the starting point of a long genealogical search. Norman Rudd has in 1 1 1 1 1 made it his mision to seek out and docu- ment his ancestry back to his Irish great - great -grandparents. His search has taken hien to.Ireland three times. He has establish- ed the Rudd Family Research Association to further the work. The; search 'will culminate- in the .near., future in the publication of a book entitled "An Irish Rudd Family - Progeny of Gor- don Rudd and Alicia Wellwood of Rathsaran Parish", which traces the descendents of the nine Rudd children from about 1810. , Seven of the Children emigrated from Ireland as a result of the potato famine, five to Ontario (then known as Canada West) and two to the U.S.A. Their destinations were concentrated in southwestern Ontario, especially in the Clinton — Goderich. area. It was in 1983 that some',150 Rudd descendents gathered for the first "Rudd Roundup" at Jackson Hole, Wyoming. That was such a successful event that "Rudd **ea* 91 99 Factor] 99 Stereo LP or Cass.
