Mike Booker (439) of Tillsonburg won the race with a time of 32:22, more than a minute ahead of John Cress of Cambridge. North-South Tied for first - Frank Donnelly and Evie McDonagh with Jean Papernick and Louise Hetherington 1191/z points. Third - Aelian Weerasooriya and P.K. Venkiteswaran - 116 points; fourth - Don and Anna Godley -110 points; fifth - Dawna Sproule and Georgia Schaefer 109'2 points. Goderich Classic 1OKm Fun .Run 87 compete in annual trek Last year Mike Booker of Tillsonburg finished second in the Goderich 10 Km Classic Run to John Cress of Cambridge. But this year, Booker turned the tables on his opponent and won the Men's Open Division of the Classic Run a full 1:07 ahead of Cress. Booker completed the 10 km run in 32:22 while Cress. came in at 33:29. Peter Self of Waterloo finished third behind the winning duo for the second year, just two seconds behind Self at 33:31. Lynn Devereaux of Seaforth repeated as 'Women's Open champion completing the course in 41:29. Audrey McCabe of Acton was second with a time of 42:25 and Linda Roberts, London, was third. Neil Dunford of New Hamburg won the. Masters Class (40 and over) in a time of 33:21 while Glen Norcliffe, Kincardine, was Vtl.:TES FQlh . iii1t14 tin 4 second and Bernie Conway, London, third. " Bill Lessard of Chatham won the Youth - Male division in 36:59 and Chad Radonske won the under 12 category with a time of 43:44. ' GDCI track team member Shane Worsell topped the list of local entrants winning with a time of, 38:07. John Smallwood finished second, just one se- cond ahead of Scott Macaulay. Connie Macaulay (49:02) was the top Goderich female runner while Judy Watt (52:21) finished second and Sandy Hamilton and. Val Mallough (59:59) tied for third. A total of 87 runners participated in the annual event competing for $740 in prizes offered by Athlete's Foot, Suncoast Mall, New Balance, Adidas, Nike and Reebok. e• /.71`.111 LM Win three lose two • Sunset Golf Club hosted a Junior Invitational Tournament last Wednesday with 62 area golfers in the competition. (photos by Paul Hartman) Sunset hosts Junior Invitational Tourney as 62 participate from area golf e• On Wednesday, Sunset hosted the Junior Invitational with 62 participants. Low gross for the day was Steve Marka bf Blenheim with a 76. The longest drive on 9 hole is awarded to our own Tom Durnin of Sunset. On number two hole, the closest to the hole was Jim Adherns, a Bantam from Ironwood. Low gross and low net in the 'Bantam Division was Jason Haywood and Jim Adherns, both of Ironwood Golf Club in Ex- eter. xeter. Jason Cook of'Sunset was also a Ban- tam winner: - The Juvenile Division was claimed by Mark Visscher of Stratford who shot a fine 78. Tim Connelly of Sunset rose to take low net. Mike Beange, also of Sunset, was a Winner in Juvenile. Ray Bedard of Maitland and Andy Ritchie- of Kincardine -won the Junior.Division. On Men's Nite, an entirely new cast represented the top flight winners. Low gross of the dvy was taken by Brian Reeve and tow net by Paul. Corriveau. Pete Tlechert salvaged low gross first Hite and Greg Hansen, low net. Gary Duffy, in se- , •cond flite secured low gross and Bob Dur- nin won low net. In third flite, Greg Jervis chose low gross and Tom Stuart, low net. Ladies' Nite saw Joyce Bolton claim Hitt flite and Ellen Connelly, second (lite. Third flite low gross was Eleaalor Ritchie, and low net by Mary Lynne Telford. Fourth flite was divided among Bejty Helesic, Vicki Doherty, and Betty Fuller. To update the Ladies' scene, Mary Lynne Telford and Dorothy Bourdeau each won at Seaforth and' Shirley Bae'chler scored a victory at Owen Sound. The results of the Mixed Two -Ball on Friday saw, Bob McDougall and Wanda clubs McDonald take first and Stan Connelly ana Mary Lynne Telford secured second. Third was Don Fuller and Kathy MacDonald. The next /nixed two -ball will Friday, August 1 at 6 p.m. What is the ruling when an animal in- terferes with the, route of the' ball? As Eleanor Ritchie can attest, a seagull in- terceded with her long drive off the eleventh tee into the sandtrap and placed the ball dirdetly onto the fairway. Eleanor may have just discovered an excellent mixed two -ball partner. • The Goderich Hi -Way Squirt Boy's- fastball oy'sfastball team' won three games and lost two during the last three woks of the schedule. On June 29, the Squirts swamped Clinton 11-0 on the strength of a five -run second inning. On July 2, the Squirts scored all of their eight runs in the fourth"inning but it wasn't enough to beat Wingham. Wingham scored fwo runs in.the sixth to edge Goderich 9-8. The Squirts suffered their second loss in a row on July 6 when they dropped a 13-10 decision to that same Wingham team. The club got back on track. on July 9 when they whipped Chepstow 10-4. Twq three -run innings allowed Goderich to collect their second win in a rpw as they defeated Lucknow 11-5 on July 15. The Squirts will be playing in the fastball tournament here in Goderich on the weekend. Their first game is at 6;30 on Fri- day night against Lucknow. Mosquitos lose to Seaforth 4-1 Last Thursday the' Mosquitos,travelled to Seafort1i and suffered a 4-1 defeat. Inside -right Donny "Maradona" Rivers scored the lone Goderich goal. Coach ,Jeff Surridge was pleased with the play of full- back Carl Beier and centre -back Jamie Redmond..... -_.......... . On the same night the Atoms hosted Seaforth and lost 3-1. Inside -right Jason Meriam scored for the home team: Coach Al Fisher felt that full=back Mark Hoy and left -half Chris Brown were the pick of his defenders. Seaforth and Sebringville win Tourney After a grueling weekend of slowpitch, • teams from • Sebringville and Seaforth emerged victorious in the slowpitch tour- nament held in Goderich. Sebringville knotched a six -run third in- ning to"drop Rostock 8-1 in the 'A' .final and collect the $225 prize -money. Rostock received $125 for their performance. ' In the 'B' final, the Seaforth Wildcats took eight inningsto defeat the St. Mary's team 6-5. The win was 'worth $125 to the winners while St. Mary's won $100. The MVP for the 'A' final' was Peggy Scott of Sebrinvgille while Mary Lynn Glew of Seaforth collected that honour in the 'B' final. Squirt and Peewee Softball on this weeken The Second, Annual Squirt and Peewee Boys Softball Tournament will be held August 25 and 26 'in Goderich. There will be 16 teams in total competing in the tourney, with some from Sarnia, Wingham and Lucknow. The Goderich Squirts play Friday at 6:30 p.rn. against Lucknow, with the Peewees in action op- posing Wingham at 8 p.m. Ag' Park, St. Mary's and t1.D.C.I. diamonds will be used. The consolation finals are at 2:30 p.m., Squirt champion- ship at 4:15 p.m., aid the Peewee Final at 6 p.m., all on Saturday.) Individual trophies will be awarded, as well as an MVP. Unwires are volunteering their tithe for this tournament.
