° On April 20, 1982, a resolution of the
Township of Colborne, under the then.
• Reeve, Wm. K. Bogie, established a com-
mittee to set up terms of reference, rules,
etc. for a competition to select a logo to
best portray the Township of Colborne.
This committee subsequently invited
public participation through a contest
whereby all township residents were asked
to submit art work of what they thought a
crest for the township should be. The con-
test closed on June 30, 1982 with a total of
22 submissions.being-received. Thesewere
reviewed by the committee and minor
changes made to the winning entry.
On November 16, 1982, township council
met under the chairmanship of Reeve J.
Russel Kernighan and a cash prize was
presented to Janice Allin, RR 4, Goderich
to honor her for her wining entry. The
crest, -now affixed to all of the township's,
road vehicles and displayed on the
township's . official stationery is also
available to the pubic as a full colour
miniature lapel pin. The crest is circular in
design,,bearing the inscription "Township
of Colborne" in black letters on white field
in the outer edge of the upper half of the
crest and the date "1850" centered in the
outer edge of the lower half of the crest
denoting the date of incorporation. Promi-
nent in the central part of4he crest in solid
green colour is a map of the township. In
the upper left quadrant of the crest on a
field of pale blue are three maple leayes in
yellow, representative of the maple -forests
still in prominence here.
In the upper right quadrant appears in
black silhouette, a typical farm yard
depiction of hipped roof barn, silo, tractor
and nouse on a light blue background and a
yellow field in the forefront representing
the farms and farm fields of the township.
Colborne's association with the modern
age is represented by a light aircraft in
yellow on a light blue background to re-
mind us of Sky Harbour Airport in the
township.
Against a light blue background, the
white sails of a small boat outlined against
a yellow setting sun over the dark blue
waters of Lake Huron remind us all of the

recreational pleasures available to
residents of the township, and prominently
displayed in the lower left and right areas
of the design to tell of the agricultural base
of the township, are ears of corn with
kernels of yellow and husks of green.
