When the Jolly Millers play to packed
119,uses for the Colborne Township Ses-
quicentenialun July 18'49, it will mark the
first time that the group will have per-
formed for 15 years.
But the material that the group will per
form will be largely the same, in flavor if
not in content, as it was when they gained
local notoriety in the late 60s and early 70s:
Musical numbers, mime, and skits will all
be.a part of the Jolly Miller venue.
Of the 21 original members, 14 are retur-
ning for this 'encore" performance. The
six new Jolly Miller members are all
related, in some way, to members of the
first group.
Though some of the faces may -have
changed; the spirit of the troupe remains
as it was in late 60s and early 70s.
The group was formed in 1968, the brain-
child of several Benmiller area residents,
who "wanted to get together and do
something for people." The focus was fun
and this, combined with the Benmiller con-
nection, provided the name Jolly Miller.
In its early stages, the group travelled to
localenursing homes performing their
variety show for the residents. Carol sing-
ing for shut-ins was also on the agenda.

cert was held, and the proceeds were
substantiar enough to prompt group
members to continue that style of
performing.
They were invited to other centres, per-
formed similar concerts and donated the
proceeds to charitable organizations such
as the Cancer Society, Crippled Children
and the Salvation Army.
In 1971, the group disbanded as manyuf
the members moved on to pursue careers
in other parts of the country.
As part of the .Colborne Ses-
quiceritenial's focus on history, Shirley
Hazlitt, chairperson of the celebrations, in-
vited Irene and Barry Million, members of
the original Jolly Millers, to reform the
group. They responded enthusiastically
and by January of this year, arrangements
were made for their return.
By March, practising had begun in
earnest and by mid-June, the group had
moved to the Colborne Central School
stage for a hectic schedule •involving
several practices per week.
