Goderich Bantams turn triple play
Trailing 8-7 in their game last week, the
Goderich Bantam II fastball team looked
to be in a load of trouble when the opposi-
tion put two men on base with nobody out —
in trouble that is, until the club pulled off
the_ near,impogsible: a triple plait.°
Goderich was playing Cargill m WOAA
fastball action here in Goderich when the
situation developed. The Cargill batter
stepped to the plate and pounded a fly ball
to right field.
The ball looked to be a sure hit so the
runner on second sprinted for home.
Unbeknownst to him, Goderieh's
rightfielder, Mike Alcock, made a spec-
-----taetdar-cateh to retire -the -batter.
Alcock gunned a throw to the plate to
catcher Dan Crawford too late to get the
runner. Crawford, seeing the runner on
first tagging and breaking for second,
threw to shortstop Mike Duckworth, cover-
ing. Duckworth made the tag to provide
the second out of the inning.
Thinking the play over, he returned the
ball to the pitcher. Suddenly realizing that
the runner who began the inning on se-
cond, could not score without tagging up,
the pitcher threw the ball back to
Duckworth. He stepped on the bag to com-
