Ann May, who grew up on a farm just north of London, started riding horses in 1930 when she was just four years old. With her little black Shetland pony, named Tricksy, Ann May took second pri2e at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto, riding against competitors up to 16 years of age. She also - won toplioners atVstern-Fair.` After attending a Roy Rogers perfor- mance in 1945 in Toronto, Ann switched to western riding. Training her old cow pony and a newborn calf, Ann built her own' miniature rodeo. The rodeo entertained at many London area fairs, was the feature at- traction at the opening, of Storybook Gardens and took part in many London parades. Ann also became an accomplished trick rope artist, lassoing the title of Western On- tario's queen of the cowgirls. Ann still loves competition and trail rides.' She encourages young people to join riding clubs, carrying on past traditions. On Saturday, Aug. 16, Ann May, Western Ontario's Queen of the Cowgirls, and her trick horse, Silver, will lead the Dungannon Fair's parade. The parade will leave the United Church corner in Dungannon' at 12 noon, travel north along main street, and west on the 4th concession of Ashfield to the fair grounds. At 3 p.m., the same.day, the pair will entertain in the horse corral on the fair grounds. Ann May and Silver will delight viewers with, fancy roping, the roller board and ring act. The attraction is free with the price of ad- mission to the fair which is $2 for adults, $1 for elementary school children, pre- schoolers free or $5 per;family. Erma Cartwright gave the study entitled, They gave us Roots. • CHURCH CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY The, fourteenth anniversary of the foun- ding of Huron Chapel was celebrated this past Sunday with special morning and even- ing services. Hester Dougan, a missionary with Faith Mission In Canada, was the speaker for the occassion. The Graham Sisters, a popular trio of gospel singers from Hillsburgh, Ontario, blessed the services with their. inspired singing. The congregation enjoyed the fellowship of -having dinner together following the mor- ning service.. Since the occasion. coincided _. with Pastor Carne's birthday, a poem entitl- ed "Our Pastor," written by Shirley Luna, was read by Dianne Baan during the morn- ing service. A large birthday cake; prepared by Debbie Newcomb and a smaller one, made by Susan Dobie, were served at the noon meal. Huron Chapel *as founded July 4,1971; by the Huron Christian Men's Association.
