Fads arty come and fads tray go but deep
down inside mostlidOple remain the same.
Mr. Ross, fellow graduates,. teachers,
parents and guests: as we all know fashion
changes, hair styles become wild and music
hits the pop charts. Thi world changes and
helps to create our different characters. In
our ounger days as children we used to look
up to our idols and used them as role
models. We used to pretend to be doctors,'
lawyers or professional football players.
Now as we become older and move on to big-
ger andbetter things these dreams will slow-
ly become reality. The early 1970s must
have been awesome years, just look around
the room, see all the great kids that came
from those years. Now let's bow our Ileac*,
and have four minutes of silence to think
about these graduates. Come on, just kiddin'.
yah."Ah,`corne on, who am I kidding, there
hasn't been that many kgexttimes. After all
it is school. The teachers may think "we're
finally getting rid of them," but who's get-
ting rid_of Who? Whenye think of education
who do we think of but teachers, but from
the time you turn five until yon graduate you
spend roughly 30,726 hours with these
teachers and that's only if you don't get any
after-school detentions. Do you realize what
this means? It means we spend more wak-
ing time with them than with our parents.
Hey! ! I Wait a minute. Isn't there a law
about making children work these long hard
hours without pay.
I don't remember much about current
' events back in Kindergarten. I think we had
other things on our mind back then. Like
would we be able to find the bathroom
before it was too late, but -with encourage-
ment from Mrs. McMillen most of us made
it through the first year with dry pants.
Kindergarten graduation moved us on to our
grad one one teacher Mrs. Grant. I can still
hear her words ringing in my ears: "No
Scott, you still don't get an afternoon nap."
We liked Mrs. Grant so well in grade one we
decided to take her on with us into grade 2.
Grade 3 brought us more than a new
teacher. It brought us the twins Sherri and
Shawn. That was just one more of the minor
details Mrs. Nakamura had to deal with that
year.
In grade 4 we started a new ecperience.
Our first male teacher, but we soon 'knew
the way to win him over: egg salad
sandwiches.
The year of 19823 took us into grade 5. Still
under the oath of Mr. Hunter. Grade 6 was
' another step for us. We moved from the

Colborne Public School Grade 8 graduation was held June 24 and
the award winners included from left to right in the back row, Shan-
non McNeill, Community Service Award; Tracy Black and Ron
Geddes, Friendship Award; Richard Brindley, Van den Broeek
Award forImprovement; Shawn Talbot, Top Male Athlete and in
overcrowded junior wing to the exclusive
senior wing with Mrs. Little as our teacher.
We need a break from male teachers. Then
lucky number 7 brought us Mr. Harman and
hopefully one step closer to graduation.
The end of our grade 7 year saw us lose g
person that had been a big part of our educa-
tion. Mr. Jewitt was transferred to another
school. I hope it was nothing we did.
Then finally we hit it. Our grade 4 and 5
is s your day

nightmare returned to haunt us. You guess-
ed it. We had Mr. Hunter for -a teacher
again.
Our last year also brought us a new prin-
cipal, Mr. Ross, who was very quick to let us
know at our first concert that he used to
have hair. I hope we haven't caused him to
lose any more hair in our grade 8 year. But
the night has come. To think by the end of
the ceremonies tonight, we will have com-

September hopefully we will all be entering
GDCI and moving up and ori in the world.
Some of the current events of 1985-86 will
go down in history. Events like the earth-

lost their lives, Live Aid where thousands of
dollars were raised in relieving starvation
