Junior Golf Tournament has 34 - competitors
vying for top honors at Maitland Country Club

A great night for golf on Monday June
23rd saw Harold Refflinghaus come in with
a Net 30, while Bill Hanley and Don.
MacEwan both carded 36's. Of the rest of
the 41 players the low net scorers were
Neil Shaw, Don Gard, Bill Graham, Q.
Egener, Mike Lajeunesse, Jack Hinton,
Don Thompson, Al MacDonald, Doug Hesk
and Vic Finnie.
Ori Wednesday, June 26th, 34 Junior
Golfers turned out for a Tournament. A
senior memeber played with each group of
3 juniors. After playing, the Juniors en-
joyed a sandwich lunch provided by Chef
Ben. Winners were Jeff Beange, Ray
Bedard, Dave Brown, Jason Cook, Jason
Duckworth, Jamie Hebei, Tim Harrison,
Brian Lane, Mike McCabe, Chris O'Neil,.
Andy Orr, ,Andrew Scott, Jamie Stanley,
Barry Thompson and Chris Walker. "

The Ladies played for the Maitland
Trophy on Saturday, June 28th with thir-
teen vying for it. This was an 18 hole net
score championship and the winner was
Della Bedard with a net 71. Runner-up was
Chris Hoffineyer with a net 76.

The Goderich Elevators Ladies'Fastball
team, faced their first defeat of the season
at the hands :Of the Lucknow Noisy Ladies,
in Lucknow on June 26.
Darlene Kuik recorded the win. for
Lucknow and also led her team offensively
going 2 for 4 at the plate. Lori
(Hesslewood) Howard came up with a
bases loaded double in the fifth and then
went in to relieve Kuik on the mound in the
sixth inning. Lynn Taylor played an
outstanding game defensively for
Lucknow in centre field.

knock in two runs and Petrie l it a three
run homer in the fifth but their efforts fell
short as they`lost to Lucknpw by an 11-10
decision.

citing 10-6 game. Anita Hodges and Elaine
Phillipsshared the mound for the
Elevators with Jan Rutledge an Loretta
Ayotte recording 4 hits each. Diane Melick
and Sylvia Harmon added three hits

With up to 26 games in the Goderich
Men's Slowpitch League per week the
standings seem to take on a new look each
time. •
Ideal Supply, Chrysler and Bulldogs are
always at • the top while the local,
Renegades and Garb & Gear have a solid
hold on the other end. In between we find
16 teams. battling it out for divisional
status. There is not a lot separating these
teams and on any given night, anything
can happen!
Who would .expect Sifto to tie Boyes
Transport 3-3 or better still, how did the
Chiefs hammer Canadian Tire 11-5? Apart
from a few teams' at the two ends, this

very exciting and competitive action on,
the diamonds. .
A very.pleasant surprise has been the
play of a new team - Suncoast Restaurant
and Tavern. With an eight and five record
1iey are now at the cut-off point for "A"
division. Where did this -team come from?
• ;Well, 11 players came from a Garb & Gear
team split last year,' Gary Stephenson
came from local 1863. Frank MacDonald
was pulled out of retirement and Rick
Hilliard and Joe Jankowski are new to the
league.•
Our league`tournament scheduled for
Aug. 1 - 4 has 'only three openings left. All
16 Goderich entries have been finalized.

in the third and eighth. races. The third
race will boast a purse of $13,644 while the
eighth will offer $13,884 in prize money.
The Ontario Sires Stakes will be coming
to the Goderich Raceway this Thursday,
July 3.
The three-year-old trotting colts will be
led by Jayport Worthy Vic, who notched a
:10-0.1 season last year and banked -close to
$100,000. The colt was -a recent winner at
the Woodstock Raceway, posting a time of
2:04.1
Jayport Worthy Vic's main competition
will come from K M Lazer another, 2:04.1
