Club members visit local grounds
The Goderich Garden Club assembled at miller the party of about thirty men and slippers growning nearby. At Edna Shaw's
beautifully d aged
women. enjoyed a coolie lemonade under a home we enjoyedher itis' n
suraMcKay Centre on 'their last meeting of theg flowergarden, and equally delightful patio
summer season where they set out in shady nook enhanced by a delightful loon-
private cars for a most delightful afternoon with plants and furnishings designed and ar-
visiting local gardens.
The first stop was at the Fowlers, in Col-
borne Township. This lovely rolling lot is
beautifully designed toy take advantage of
the terrain. Gorgeous orange lilies gave a
,brilliant gaiety to several areas to comple-
ment the lush green lawns. A highlight of
this garden was the giant white rose tree (a
wild rambler, I believe) that had grown
under ideal conditions. •
Next they visited the Haan's spacious
grounds in the same area. The 'highlight
here was the delightful pond, complete with
ducks, and surrounded by lovely green
lawns in a natural setting giving one a feel-
furof tranquility. A lovely glower garden '-Tickets v ®l l®d✓ for carousel
further enhanced the beauty of the place.
We then proceeded to the Stadelman's
spacious, rolling, well -kept lawns and lush
flower gardens. The highlight here • is the
lovely nature walk under the shady trees. A
delightful creek flows peacefully down into
the little ravine that has been lovingly
transformed into a natural wild flower
glade. -
At Norma Hazlett's lovely home at Ben -
twin. The grounds here were` also
beautifully -kept and one. felt refreshed with
the sheer joy of Nature at her greenest time
of the year, .
Refreshed and eager to see more samples
of man/woman's handiwork when working
with God tolake amore beautiful world,
we proceedeback to our beautiful town to
view some outstanding gardens there. Our
first call was at Jean Adams', where we en-
joyed her mixed perennial border and
observed her raised vegetable beds.
Next stop was at Ida Bentley's place to see
a unique piece of statuary, plus dainty lady
ranged in her own expert way.
At the Sparlings lovely home right next to
the park on Bingham Drive we viewed with
interest and admiration their well -kept and
healthy vegetable garden including the col-
orful flowers and lovely boxwood hedges
enclosing their vegetable garden.
Betty Allen's garden was a picture of
beauty and neatness encircling a well-
tended vegetable garden. At the Gowers',
White clematis greeted the visitors, and a
gorgeous perennial garden delighted the
visitors..
