Bill Creighton, who works with the
Ministry. of Natural Resources, was -guest
speaker at the Grade 3 graduation held at
Br+pl .kside School on Monday evening, June
2$,
The valedictorian was Tanya Turner.
Seven Rintoul,p�aaid grace before the meal
and (Kevin Baanzer proposed the toast to
Queen and country.
The Sr. Helen's Women's Institute catered
to the meal and Randy Hurt spoke hi ap-
preciation to the ladies.
Tony McQuail brought greetings from the
Board of Education and Arnold Mathers
represented. the Education Centre
Administration,
Shauna Andrew played a piano solo before
intermission. Pianists for the processional
of. Grade 8 graduates were two Grade 8
girls, Maryon Dow and Rachel Fairbairn.
•Melissa; Logtenberg played a piano solo dur-
ing the program.
Don,. Cameron introduced the graduates
and Principal Don Tremier°presented the
diplomas. Peter Hooftman introduced the
guest speaker, Bill Creighton, who spoke
very ably to the students about sett' . their
goals and drain and having the(' eters

Mr. Cameron presented bars to various
members, of the class for achievements
through the year. D.D. Graham and Jill
Clynick presented the Sports Awards to
Julie Pentland and Tim Moss who were
Senior Champions at Brookside Track and
Field Day.
Lois Ottewell accompanied the singing of
0 Canada and the young people and their
parents enjoyed a social hour and dancing to
the music of The Star Spinners, Clare and
Bonnie Hodges. All floral arrangements
were courtesy of Valley Green Florists, pro-
prietor Donna Sue Mcclenaghan of
Lucknow.
On Tuesday, June 17 the Kindergarten
classes and many of their mothers enjoyed a
trip to Storybook Gardens in London, pro-
viding a good experience for the children.
On Wednesday, June 18, Don Cameron
took his Grade 8 class roller skating in
Goderich as a year end 'activity..
The two Grade 2 classes and their
teachers, Sheila Clarke and Judy Jewitt and
several parents enjoyed a picnic at St.
Christopher's Beach last week. The children
were organized in small groups with a
pparena or teacher and walked around the
harbour area observing many points q ,
interest. - -
Brookside Staff ' hosted a luncheon on
Thursday, June 26 for the Adult Volunteers
who helped in the school in various ways
.through the year.
Some tutored individual children or small
groups, conducted drill activities, made
learning - materials or concert costumes,
helped repair books in the library or helped
on sports days and field trips. Ail their help
was greatly appreciated and each volunteer
vas presented with a certificate.
\ Bev Weaver and Marie Webster received
'special recognition for faithful, competent
help over all three terms. Mrs. Weaver
came every Wednesday and cheerfully turn-
ed her hand to whatever was requested and
also assisted on Field Day and various field
trips, Mrs. Webster also came all three
terms and provided many extra experiences
for the children such as making dough
figures and writing about them, making
gingerbread houses, doing embroidery and
making , chocolates at Easter time. Mary
Bire presented Bev and Marie each with a
corsage and thanked them and all the
volunteers for their help. Twenty-three
volunteers were invited to the luncheon and
though some seht their regrets, there was a
good attendance. The assistance and
understanding of the volunteers enhances
the learning of Brookside students.
We wish everyone a happy, safe summer
and hope you come back in September eager
to .share experiences and work hard to
achieve your best.

contributed to the Brookside Broadcast col-
umn this year, Jennifer Dalton, Madonna
Bradley, Rachel Fairbairn, Dawn Jergens,
Melissa Logtenberg, Bev Aitchison and Bob-
bi Anne Menary.
Activities planned for Point Farms this summer
Point Farms Provincial Park has another
busy week planned in its visitor services
program.
On Saturday. July 5 the Anglican Church
will be holding a bake sale at the barn in the
park at 10 am. be sure to arrive early for
these homebaked goodies are certain to go
quickly.
Sunday afternoon there is a,sand-
sculpture building contest. Judging will take
place at 3 pm to determine the most creative
sculpture, the nicest sandcastle, the most
unusual sandcastle and other awards. In the
evening, the Sunday Film Festival con-
tinues with the movie "Coal Miner's

On Monday. July 7 there will be a guided
walk to the park's historic sites at 11:00 am.
A special event for children is the playday
which begins at -2 pm at the barn. There will
be games and relays for anyone from 6-12
years. At 8:00 pm the softball game for all
ages, will start at the ball diamond.
Join us at the beach at 11:00 am on Tues-
day for crafts. At 4 pm a group will leave
from the park gatehouse for a tour of
McNeil's dairy farm. Then its baclS to the
park's barn for an evening program with
Joe Burgess from the Federation of
Naturalists at 8 pm. This promises to be an

exciting program, so be sure to attend:
Wednesday at 1 pm the Red., Cross will be
giving a small craft and water safety
demonstration at the beach. At 8:30 pm
there will be a, campfire program. Then on
Thursday, the Ministry of Environment will
be giving a slide shov,Q starting at 8:30 pm in
the barn. They will also be doing an aquatic
and insect study from -10 am to 12 noon on
Friday.
In addition to these events the park has
sports equipment available for loan, picnic
areas, a beach on Lake Huron, walking
trails and more, all of which are included in
the $3.00 per car park day use permit."
