The boa,rdsailers of Goderich and area
have formed a club this season and one of
the Main. organized events is weekly races
o'n Wednesday evenings at St.
Christopher's Beach.
This ,past Wednesday was a' low wind
evening with 12 -racers. 'taking part. Only
two races were held due to the wind condi-
tions, but the competition was keen. •
Gil Boyd had the best results finishing
witka first and a second. In the Ladies'
Class, Carol MacEwan .took first in both
GDCI honoured the performances of its outstanding male athletes,
last Friday, June 13, at the Awards Assembly. From front Left.: Rob

Goderich Peewees minor `soccer team
played their first game of the season last
. Friday evening and battled to a 2-2 draw
with St. Columban in Goderich, '
Sharp -shooting striker Bob Lumley
scored both Goderich goals, the first from
a penalty kick and the. second on a
breakaway set up by midfielder Mike
Hunter.
• Coach Linda Lumley was satisfied with
her team'soverall effort and work rate.
Bryan Corriveau was very steady in goal
and his booming kicks often carried play
over the half -way line..
Centre -backs Keith Ducharme'and Steve
Tzioumis were defensive standouts. Bob,
Lumley, Marc Melick and Shane Daven-
port were the offensive sparkplugs, with
• .Lumley coming clos,eto scoring on several
other occasions. Midfielders Paul
Hamilton, Chris Herlufsen, and Mike
Hunter worked hard on defense and were
often constructive in initiating counter-
attacks. •
The following day the Peewees travelled
to Walkerton where they beat Hanover 4-2.
Striker Marc Melick scorer] twice and
Chris Herlufsen and Bryan Corriveau once
each.
The Atoms kicked -off their season with a
4-2 victory in St. Colurriban last Monday.
Jason Meriam led the scoring parade with
two goals. Fowards Jeff Klages and Dar-
rylFielder ch ed in with one apiece.
Coach Al Fis mentioned goalkeeper
Taylor Cicchini, centre -half Derek
Gilchrist and full-back Joey Sherratt as his
outstanding defensive players. He also
was pleased with the play of inside -right
Jason Meriam.
Last Thursday the Atoms received a 4-1
beating at the hands of Seaforth; in
Goderich., Outside -right David Lumley
scored thelone goal for the home team.
Coach Fisher felt that D'hrek Gilchrist was
his most reliable defensive player.
The Squirts hosted St. Columban last

In action from two weeks ago, the,
Squirts devastated Ripley 23-1. The team
continued to ride the crest of the big inn-
ing,collecting six runs in the first and six
in the fifth -to take the win.

• Fastball team scored nine runs in the sixth
inning en route to a 43-5 trouncing of Tiver-
ton in action, June 20.
Mark Phillips and Jeff.Beange led the
way offensively, with two home -runs each.
Bill Ingham struck out six on his way to a
one -hitter.
On June 22, the. Squirts were mauling

There was a major improvement defen-
sively • over, the previous week's perfor-
mance in Seaforth. 'Midfielders Willie
Lomas and Tim Powell and full-backs Eric
trhisholm and Paul Gee Witted in sound
efforts. . .
In Squirt House League action last
Wednesday defending Champion Giants
•widened their lead at the top of the table to
three points, by defeating Raiders 3-0.
Matt Hunter was the trigger mon with all
three goals for the Big Green.
In the second game Raiders and
Bombers played to a 1-1 draw. Rhonda
McDougall tallied for Raiders and Mark
Johnston scored for Bombers. These twol
teams are currently tied for second place
in the standings with three points each.

Darlene McKee. In the Men's Division,
Mark Fisher came on strong to finish the
second race in first place to avenge his
eighth place finish at the beginning of the
night. Paul McKee was consistent with. a
second and a fourth place finish.
Other• racers out last week were: Andy
Stinnissen, Paul Alcock, Scot Little, Dave
Buchberger, Hugo Maaskant and Paul
Castle.
